Trump is in talks with Russia to end the war

To me any positing physical troops in the middle is just asking for more war; but I am wholly in favour of geospatial baby-sitting.

He's not my man.

So, this is where we are now.

Putin is putting forth that the Ukrainian government be overthrown by a temporary U.N. adminstration.

Zelensky is putting forth that the Russian government be overthrown by a temporary U.N. adminstration.

Here we are, dealing with toddlers.

As usual Sir Humphrey (from Brit comedy Yes Minister) is spot on about Europe. This is pre Brexit:

'Sir Humphrey Appleby: The Foreign Office is pro-Europe because it’s really anti-Europe. The civil service was united in its desire to make sure that the Common Market didn’t work. That’s why we went into it. Britain has had the same foreign policy objective for at least 500 years: to create a disunited Europe. In that cause we have fought with the Dutch against the Spanish, with the Germans against the French, French and Italians against the Germans, and the French against the Germans and Italians. Divide and rule, you see. Why should we change now, when it’s worked so well?

Jim Hacker: It’s all ancient history, surely.

Sir Humphrey Appleby: Yes, and current policy. We had to break the whole thing up, so we had to get inside. We tried to break it up from the outside, but that wouldn’t work. Now that we are inside, we can make a big pig’s breakfast of the whole thing! Set the Germans against the French, French against Italians, Italians against Dutch —The Foreign Office is terribly pleased! It’s just like old times!

Jim Hacker: Surely we are committed to the European ideal!

Sir Humphrey Appleby: Really, Minister!

Jim Hacker: If not, why are we pressing for an increase in membership?

Sir Humphrey Appleby: For the same reason. It's just like the United Nations, in fact. The more members it has, the more arguments it can stir up, the more futile and impotent it becomes.

Jim Hacker: What appalling cynicism!

Sir Humphrey Appleby: Yes. We call it diplomacy, Minister."

Well, to that point....

This whole "End the war in Ukraine" as a virtuous declaration seems to have had little effect... all things considered.

So... they keep us disunited...  hmmm.  Where have I heard this before?

Possibly because Putin has absolutely no intention of ending it?

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/us-news/do...d-34960182

"This week, a Russian negotiator warned that peace talks could drag into 2026, a direct contradiction to Trump’s stated aims on the war in Ukraine. “It would have been naive to expect any breakthroughs,” negotiator Grigory Karasin said to Russian state TV Channel Rossiya 24."

So there you have it.

What is there to have?

Could you be saying that there is no desire or inclination to end the war on the part of "just" Putin?

And that he, alone, can continue this campaign like some petulant king throwing a tantrum over 'what he wants?'

I suppose you could be right, but it kind of limits the conversation to Putin... who is not waging this war alone by any means.

The old "follow the money" adage comes to mind...

Yes, yes and yes.

Trump and Zelensky wanted a ceasefire.

Putin didn't.

He started his War and is relentlessly continuing it by attacking civilians targets on a daily basis.

It is indeed Putin's war and only he can end it.

As per my source, it's crystal clear that he has no such intention.

That's better.

But I wonder now, if only to "play their game," that Russia did put forth a "what it wants" list?

Is this "apparent" - but disingenuous - attempt to present 'engagement' in negotiations actually leading to some tactical or strategic benefit for the Putin you describe?

If the war goes on... unstopped... then should the west - and all it's 'associated' trumpeting voices finally accept that it is NOT up to them?

That all of this drama cannot be interceded upon... doing so only broadens the fissure between us as nation identities.

People often help each other... institutionalized governments only step on them.

(hmmm... perhaps I should take a break from posting....  Cool )
