BREAKING: Supreme Court Allows Trump to Fire Biden-Appointed FTC Commissioner
Quote:Shortly after the firing, they both sued to get their jobs back.
In July, a federal judge rehired the Democrat FTC Commissioner who was fired by President Trump earlier this year.
US District Judge Loren AliKhan, a Biden appointee, said President Trump’s firing of Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, the Democrat FTC Commissioner, was illegal.
The Trump Administration promptly appealed the order.
On Tuesday, the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, stacked with Obama judges, citing the century-old Supreme Court decision Humphrey’s Executor, ruled that Rebecca Slaughter can remain at her job after Trump fired her.
On Monday, Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts allowed President Trump to fire Slaughter while the case continues through the legal system.
NBC News reported:
Quote:The Supreme Court on Monday allowed President Donald Trump to fire a member of the Federal Trade Commission despite a federal law that is intended to restrict the White House’s power to control the agency.
The court, via an order issued by Chief Justice John Roberts, temporarily blocked a judge’s ruling that reinstated Rebecca Kelly Slaughter while the case continues.
The order did not definitively signal how the court would address an emergency request made by the Trump administration to give the president broader authority to fire independent agency members without cause, but signals that it would likely grant it.

Just to be clear, Trump appointed Slaughter in 2018. Biden kept that appointment going when he became president.
Nice twist gateway pundit put on it for the uninformed.

It doesn't amount to a hill of beans who appointed them
IF they aren't doing the job, they are subject to being fired
IF it's not the President, then who...
thats the issue...
These bureaucratic monstrosities have no oversight or accountability. Most times, they are full of bureaucratic inertia, our FTC rulings have to have some adaptability to modern conditions...
I'd be applauding any President who tackled these issues.
District judges and other governmental appointees weren't supposed to be able to usurp the President's authority to the degree they're attempting to do in 2025.
This is part and parcel of what Trump was elected for;
to challenge the old and antiquated regulatory rules from the Depression era. Much like our trade deals, nobody else had the time or energy to examine them and to modify them to best fit our situation today.
There's nothing wrong with any President attempting this...
The fact that it makes the left anxious, agitated, and angry is just icing on the cake.
Again, nothing is being done that cannot be undone, with a Democratic President and Congress
Quote:The Supreme Court's decision to allow Trump to fire FTC Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter overturns a 1935 precedent (Humphrey's Executor v. United States), which had protected independent agency leaders from arbitrary dismissal, reflecting a shift toward stronger presidential control over regulatory bodies, as evidenced by a 5-4 ruling in May 2025 expanding executive firing powers.
This ruling challenges the FTC's bipartisan structure, established by Congress to insulate it from political influence, with data showing 90% of lower court decisions favoring agency independence were overturned by the current conservative-majority Supreme Court in 2025, per Reuters analysis.
The move aligns with the Trump administration's legal strategy to dismantle what it calls the "modern administrative state," supported by a February 2025 DOJ letter to Congress signaling intent to limit 90-year-old precedents, potentially reshaping economic regulation amid ongoing antitrust cases like the FTC's lawsuit against Facebook.

Nah, just getting rid of the "crypto" part of cryptofascism, now that we have sufficient AI capability to quell any domestic dissent.

US Constitution Article II Section 1: "The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America."
This should not be controversial.

It's hilarious to hear hyper-partisan people argue about these actions and firings when, before Trump was making the decisions, these same people could have cared less who gets canned at the FTC.
My general point remains, let him cook. If the majority don't enjoy the meal, we will have a new chef.
Isn't that what the Democrats want?

He had to practice being that guy, given his failed bankrupt businesses without ever being in a real boardroom...
