Because Trump is a fool and being lead by Netanyahu's orders, and the fact that NATO is a defensive agreement, not Trumps private army.  The Iranian attack is also deemed illegal by the international community.

After the recent attacks on international shipping most allies are not 'sitting on their hands' but looking how to legally support a naval mission to the straits, you know, to help sort out Trumps f*ck up!!
