Trump is in talks with Russia to end the war
Here is the former CIC of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and current Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK; he doesn't sound too optimistic, just realistic.

Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and current Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK Valeriy Zaluzhny
admitted that Russia is ahead of Ukraine in terms of the level of implementation of innovations at the front.
According to him, Ukraine has lost the ability to steadily develop and scale technological solutions , even in those areas where it previously retained an advantage. “Today we are already giving in to the enemy – and we need to talk about this openly,” — Zaluzhny said at a defense forum. Although he did not specify what developments he was talking about, he was probably talking primarily about drones, where Russia has recently achieved significant technological progress. Zaluzhny noted that Ukraine has its own developments , but they are fragmentary, limited in scale and do not cover all the needs of the defense strategy. In this regard, he emphasized Kiev's critical dependence on external assistance. He also drew attention to the shortage of personnel and the dire state of the economy , calling the current phase of the war on the part of the Russian Federation an “attack of attrition. In response to this, the former commander-in-chief proposes "to strike at the economy and social system of the RF Armed Forces" in order to hinder Russia's technological development and provoke internal destabilization. He did not explain how to achieve this, but mentioned that high-tech tools should be key. The final goal, according to Zaluzhny, should be to force Russia to abandon the continuation of the war and accept the Ukrainian conditions for ending the conflict . At the same time, he made it clear that there is no longer talk of returning to the borders of 1991 or even 2022 , since, as he himself stated earlier, such goals are unattainable today.

I watch Willy because he tempers that edge. He was gung ho for Ukraine from the jump...and after going there many times to report from the ground. Also having the military background...and that gaining him many inside sources all over the war. His opinion is not only tempered and realistic...but deep down as much as he wants good to prevail in his opinion...he reports when it isn't.

Its very valuable for news and I had no clue it wasn't more common. Military Summary Channel is another one I like for their actual map. They seem bias to Russia but only allow map changes for geo located reports...everything else is reported but speculative until proven map wise.

I used to be plugged in more during the early days, and remember Willie's videos, there's just an air of credibility to his analysis.

Like a lot of people, I was hopeful early on for Ukraine, Ghost of Kyiv, etc., but 7 to 1 troop ratio and no clear military plan for victory, those 2 huge negatives against Ukraine never diminished, hearing rumors, unsubstantiated rumors of a lost or out-of-commission defensive system

Quote:Oleksandr Shyrshyn, battalion commander of the 47 Separate Mechanized Brigade, has submitted his resignation, sharply criticizing Ukraine’s military leadership for what he described as senseless orders and unnecessary casualties.
"I have never received more stupid objectives than in the current direction," Shyrshyn wrote in a blunt Facebook post announcing his decision on May 16. "Someday I will tell you the details, but the stupid loss of people, trembling in front of a stupid generals, leads to nothing but failures."
"I hope your children will also serve in the infantry and carry out your orders," he added

Shyrshyn on May 16 accused the military command of focusing on punishments rather than results. "All they are capable of is reprimands, investigations, imposition of penalties. Everyone is going to hell," he wrote. "Political games and assessment of the real state of affairs do not correspond to either reality or possibilities. They played games."

Ukraine's General Staff initiated an internal investigation on May 18 following the resignation of Oleksandr Shyrshyn, commander of the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade, who criticized military leadership for what he described as senseless orders and unnecessary casualties.
"By order of the chief of the General Staff, a working group has been set up for a comprehensive study of the circumstances outlined (by Shyrshyn)," the General Staff wrote in a statement.
It pledged to analyze orders issued at multiple levels of the command hierarchy for their relevance to the battlefield situation and make "appropriate decisions" following the inspection.

How did Putin play him for a fool?

Because Mad Vlad lead Trump up the garden path, he's shown plenty of times he's not interested in peace unless its on his terms and Ukraine is under his thumb.
Trump's ego had him thinking he could influence Putin (belief he could end it in 24hours), after his and Vance's embarrassing attack on Zelensky in the White House, they showed the world how they'd been suckered by Putin's propaganda.

Do you think there is a single leader out there even a fringe one who can make peace happen when the losing side refuses to accept its losing?

Putin bad...but Putin not dumb...

So... Zelensky was upset, who cares? Now he can go bark up Starmer and the EU to fund this losing war.

"Embarrassed," please, Zelensky was told the truth, and he pitched a hissy fit.

Trump came in, gave it the good old college try, what else was he supposed to do?

Pretend Ukraine could outdrone Russia, and gain back the lost oblasts.

It's not happening and wasn't going to happen no matter who the President was because Russia has had a 3-year headstart, with a 7-1 troop ratio advantage and air superiority besides...

Neither Zelenskyy nor Putin wants peace, Zelenskyy because once there is peace, he has to have elections and audits and questions, and Putin doesn't want peace because he will be able to solidify Russia's gains and terraform those eastern provinces where they will be a solid buffer from Ukraine's artillery and drones.

Trump and his team have tried talking to both sides and then finally said Not my monkey, not my circus and moved on.  Which is exactly one of the reasons he won the election.  America wanted out of this conflict; we've spent too much in a losing war.

Not to mention, how did any of this change the trajectory of the war?

Thats all that matters, it will take billions of dollars, 4-5 years minimum, and a miracle for Ukraine to even attempt to retake the lost oblasts. All the while, you churn a generation into a meat grinder, losses that Russia can absorb better than Ukraine

The smart bet is to cut your losses, make peace, and begin preparing for the next war with hopefully in a more advantageous position

Meawhile on the Finnish/Russian border, Russia is building up their military. Remember when they started doing that on the Ukrainian/Russian border and everyone didn't think it meant anything? The Arctic shipping passages are Putin's next target. Hence, Trump feeling the need for an iron dome type protection.

Russia's war with Ukraine is at a stalemate and just how long can a country keep going on a war economy?

I'm amazed that you are apparently not in the least disturbed by that shit show in the Oval Office.  Not surprised though.

I didn't see any "hissy fit" from Zelensky.

Appeasement doesn't work.

Meanwhile, Russia is deliberately attacking civilians every day.

These are war crimes.

But oh no, it's all the fault of the evil EU and the UK.
'l'll just check my Giveashitometer....Nope.  Nothing...

When you have a 7:1 advantage manpower wise and now probably larger...a real long time. I remember when everyone was saying Russia will just run out. Now even NATO has to admit the Russia can out produce them by leaps and bounds all while under sanctions. All the while the line just keeps moving every day. I think Russia can and will do this as long as it takes to accomplish their goals. Those same goals are basically the starting point for any cease fire or peace to actually happen.

I don't plan to or want to live in or be Russian...I love the US and want us to be on top all the time...but it doesn't take a genius to see where this was gonna end up...no NATO country is gonna go to a war economy over Ukraine...they will just blow our money while the infrastructure crumbles and veterans live homeless...
