Good Horror Films.

Always loved a good genuine horror film and as Hollywood seems to be creatively (and morally) bankrupt these days they seem increasingly difficult to find.

This thread might not be for everyone but if you enjoy a good horror film and know of any original or exceptional examples (new or old) then please feel free to post.

Grew up watching VHS versions of 'The Wicker Man' and 'American Werewolf In London' so the standard is set pretty high lol.

Recently watched Midsommar and thought it was awesome.

Cool idea for a thread. I'm seeing a lot of remakes and comic book superhero type movies from Hollywood these days, and I do like a good comic book character movie if it's done well.

I did watch tons of horror movies in the 90s from the local video chains and eventually was only inquiring about new releases because it was pretty much all I hadn't seen.

I think I recall two versions of the Wicker Man, and one was really old and the other I believe was a remake that starred Nicholas Cage; maybe I'm thinking about 10,000 Maniacs on the former - black and white I think.

One movie that I saw within the past couple years that I thought was very good was Backcountry(based on a true story), and I suppose before that maybe House of a thousand Corpses and the following two that completed the trilogy.

Maybe some others worth mentioning are Burnt Offerings from the 70s which was very good, and I'm not really much into the haunted house phenomenon, but that was an exception for sure.

Also Phantasm(80s maybe), the first Hellraiser, and the Salems' Lot that had David Soul from Starsky and Hutch.

These are just a few that come to mind, and I did also see a pretty good sci-fi horror movie from around 2010 called Prometheus that I would recommend.

Quick brainstorm right after a nap, and excuse the pun, but I'll stop by again if anything 'paramount' comes to mind. I'm quite certain I've omitted some good stuff here. I've seen so many, just not so much lately is all. These days I'm more into searching for content on YouTube than anything else.

My favorite comedy horror of all time. Features Christopher Lee in a cameo role and some great lines by the main cast. The plot is cool and the characters are crazy. A great British movie and a right laugh.

Fair enough amigo but would definitely recommend 'Rec' (Spanish not Portuguese).

Thought it was a genuinely fantastic horror film.

Although Stephen King -- the author -- apparently didn't like Kubrick's treatment of his book The Shining, I really love the movie.   Mr. King apparently wanted to focus more upon the horrors of alcoholism.   I think the movie is perfect in every way.  Many folk have shaded Shelly Duvall's role, but I think she is also perfect in her role, because she is so very vulnerable.  Nicholson, is, of course, excellent as always, and the supporting cast such as Scatman Corothers are great.   This is one of my favorite horror movies.   

I'm also a big fan of Jordan Peele's movies, in particular "Us."   His other two, "Nope" and "Get Out" might also well be considered horror movies and probably should be.   Peele's works are amazing to me.  They seem to cut into the heart of what makes us afraid, in the same way that Stephen King's books tapped into the bump in the dark that we feared.  Peele also writes and directs from a position of social commentary, and it doesn't detract from the rawness of his films at all.   I enjoy all aspects of his works, and am glad he is among us to educate us and entertain us and horrify us.

It's okay.   I disagree, but we are all allowed our views and opinions.   No worries between you and me.  

I think Peele's works outline various racial problems, while at the same time scaring the shit out of us.  Good stuff.
