My point is that it is better to let 1000 criminals free than to lock up 1 innocent person unjustly.  That is the American Spirit I refer to.

Have you ever considered that American Spirit is why America as a nation tends to receive greater blessing than other nations?

We have different interpretations of spirit. You are describing what is actual empathy for the unjustly convicted innocent AMERICANS, this refers to AMERICAN CITIZENS caught up in the AMERICAN COURTS and jailed on invalid evidence or testimony, or before investigative technology could exonerate them.
In the other situation it's non-American citizens who aren't innocent at all; they entered the country illegally and are living in America, benefiting from infrastructure that is funded by American taxpayer dollars. These illegals try and avoid the American courts
