The video contains the horrific experience of a young woman who contracted hantavirus via cleaning a farmhouse and perhaps inhaling infected dust and after severe symptoms which sent her to the hospital, she was sent home by a hospital advising her to get her end of life affairs in order. She then followed her mother's advice to go to a naturopath, which she did because she said she had no other choice and she took heavy doses of prescribed Vitamin C (from rosehips), fish oil, and Super Silver (colloidal silver?) which took six months to beat the virus.
I'm wondering if the medical community have treatments for this particular virus. Scary times.

Quote:There is no specific medical cure, vaccine, or curative antiviral medication for hantavirus infection. Treatment is based on supportive care, often in an ICU, involving oxygen therapy, medication to manage symptoms, and in severe cases, mechanical ventilation or dialysis. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Key Aspects of Hantavirus Management:- Supportive Care: The primary treatment is supporting the patient through symptom management, which is crucial for survival.
- Early Diagnosis: Early intervention in an ICU improves survival rates significantly.
- Respiratory/Kidney Support: Patients with Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) often need breathing support (intubation), while those with Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS) may require dialysis.
- Experimental Trials: While no cure exists, research into treatments and antivirals continues.
Probably never been investigated for cures given the low figures. Again from Ai
Quote:However, symptoms may appear as early as one week and as late as eight weeks following exposure. Hantavirus infections are relatively uncommon globally. In 2025 (as of epidemiological week 47), in the Region of the Americas, eight countries reported 229 cases and 59 deaths with a CFR of 25.7%.

Well this person-to-person strain's transmission requires very close and prolonged contact, so hopefully this won't be anywhere near as bad as the Covid-19 pandemic.
---
"But on Wednesday, the WHO confirmed that the virus in the cruise ship outbreak was of the Andes strain. As the agency previously said, that specific strain is the only variation of hantavirus with previously reported instances of human-to-human transmission, and it is also responsible for most cases of the illness in South America.
The largest outbreak of the Andes strain was in Argentina in 2018, leading to 34 cases and 11 deaths, said CBS News medical correspondent Dr. Céline Gounder. The Argentinian province that includes Ushuaia has never reported a hantavirus case, according to Gounder, suggesting the possibility that it might have been encountered on a stop or excursion elsewhere.
Human-to-human transmission requires "prolonged close contact," she said, adding, "this is not a pandemic kind of virus." "

Just a news tidbit:
Gene Hackman's wife died from hantavirus.
"Betsy Arakawa’s Death: Medical investigators confirmed she died from hantavirus, a rodent-borne illness transmitted through inhalation of airborne particles from dried rodent droppings, urine, or saliva."
It has been reported Gene Hackman did not die of that virus.

The response seems cautious but necessary given uncertainty about Hantavirus transmission.
Certainly highlights how quickly confined environments like a cruise ship can turn nasty.
You can't just book a flight back home, and you are in it for the duration.
I suppose the situation echoes past cruise crises like the COVID-19 pandemic ship outbreaks.
Where containment outweighed convenience.
Anyhoo, Godspeed to the poor sods and a speedy recovery to the infected...

Rats can become a problem on any ship.
Because as soon as they dock at port the rodents board via ropes, gangways, or in cargo thats loaded.
Serious infestations are rare due to inspections and traps.
But still possible on older or poorly maintained vessels.
