Why don't we know the names of the American hostages in Gaza?
It's now been nearly two months, and all I can find is that Washington says there are nine of them. I was around for the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis, and there was far more information and public concern about those hostages. The TV show Nightline evolved from a 1979 nightly news special called The Iran Crisis: America Held Hostage. Isn't it strange that there's so little political and media fuss about these nine hostages?

I think many of us here are over 60 and into their 70' and 80'. I, as you know my life is in a foreign country and I'm really some what illiterate here, but I manage to get by.
My life now is that of one that lives by oneself. It's not a lifestyle I choose, but life is given to us and we shall abide and accept it. As the path of life leads us on a daily walk into the unknown thrill of just being alive, I've chose to say to myself, touch the ground with my souls of my feet and feel the vibrant life that awaits me every day.
Thanks for reading.

One state, Two state, Red state, Blue state,
Black state, Blue state, Old state, New state.
This one has an electric car.
This one has a battle scar.
Say! What a lot of states there are.
There was a debate tonight. I thought it was great watching. So I decided to score it, like my opinion matters.
Anyway... Here is one random American's thoughts.
Question 1: Migration
DeSantis went right for the birthday party.
Newsom, would you answer the damn question? What is your response to why people leave California? Just say it! It's too EXPENSIVE. People are moving because it's too expensive.
Politifact says: More Floridians move to California than vice versa. But Ron won the point.
DeSantis 1 - Newsom 0
Question 2: Taxes
This one is funny. Florida has a higher poverty rate by far, and greater wealth inequality.
Oh why did you have to go and pimp for Biden's Job Creation, which is a fallacy.
Debate-wise, you lost. I even agree with higher taxes and you lost pimping fallacy on this one, Gavin.
DeSantis 2 - Newsom 0
Question 3: Unemployment/Job Creation
And it's about covid... And who kept their Disney park open. Oh LOOK HOW WE BOTH DID ON OUR COVID DEATH RATES. But what about unemployment rates? Their really low. Lowest they've been in decades, right?
Ron was pro vaccine, pro lock down, pro everything until that became a party issue. All true.
This is funny. This covid back and forth. Lol.
If you're an economist, using standard metrics, Newsom is killing him on this one. And I prefer democrat economic policy (taxes)
DeSantis 2 - Newsom 1
Question 4: Immigration
Numbers dropped. 1.7 million gotaways.
Ron didnt support amnesty, Gavin. He voted against Security and Immigration Reform Act (H.R. 6136). You did lie.
But he did support a few that could be considered indirect support under Obama.
And again with the birthday party.
And that is screwed up to lie to them for a political stunt and then eventually drop them at a Sacremento, California Home Depot parking lot.
But it worked.
And now, there really is a 14B dollar border plan. The aforementioned stunt may have something to do with that.
But that's a new thing for democrats so...
DeSantis 3 - Newsom 1
Question 5: Crime
We also have the most car accidents, Ron.
Homicide Rates in 2023:
Florida: 9.7/100k #19
California 8.8/100k #26
Actually California does have the better crime rate.
We're not leaving in droves anymore. That reversed in 2023 in several cities. We are not facing a crime ridden reality. People just don't like our politics. And LA murders are down 22% In 2023.
Highest murder rates are almost always red states. But we're leaving in droves! Favorite point he has. Crime is fine here.
DeSantis 3 - Newsom 2
Question 6: Parental Rights
Don't say gay!
What a fucking lead-in softball question to kiss Florida's policies ass, Hannity. Impartial my ass.
"Using education as a sword for your cultural purge"
Sorry but, ❤️❤️❤️! Exactly.
Wow, they didn't let Newsom defend that attack by DeSantis. I want to know what how he responds to minor sexchange tourism. Seems like a point he wants to defend... nevermind Fox is moving on...
BS. Fox. LGBT bias from me.
DeSantis 3 - Newsom 3
Question 7: Education
California Kids are stupid as shit. Florida kids really are smarter. Except the Universities. Now Back to covid. Blaming Biden. Yes, we are a union state. But, DeSantis made the better point on that short question..
DeSantis 4 - Newsome 3
Oh, here we go.
Question 8: Abortion
Why are you afraid to say it, Gavin?
You can only affirm you support 3rd trimester abortion through euphemism of "I support the decision of the doctor and her mother in rare circumstances?"
I support that too, avoided answer nonetheless. Just say yes, and let them twist it.
Science says: Fetal heartbeats are involuntary nerve impulse (electrical signal) in the lump of cells that become the circulatory system.
And Newsom can use all my tax money he wants (265 million this year) to fund those wicked abortions.
6 weeks is BS anyway, 57% of Ohio agrees with Newsom too.
And abortions performed past 30 weeks account for 0.0 nationally. Not even enough to register a tenth of a percentage.
They put Newsom on blast to answer and he wouldn't play.
Another bias point awarded.
DeSantis 4 - Newsom 4
Lightning Round:
Those answers were all as expected. Better stop this, right Fox? Newsom is killing him again.
DeSantis 4 - Newsom 5
Question 9: Oil
I hate energy crap. What is greedy oil vs greedy green bullshit? I support a SELF-SUSTAINING AMERICAN ENERGY industry, and if that means drilling Alaska or switching to hydrogen, so be it.
But this is on the debate, trying to avoid personal opinions. Though we will have Internal Combustion until 2035 for new vehicles. Misleading from Ron.
And I hate EV's and climate crap so another bias point.
DeSantis 5 - Newsome 5
Question 10: Homelessness
Yeah what about homelessness?
Those really are freedoms, he's got you there.
How many times is Ron gonna bring up people moving?
You know birthrates are also way down. That doesn't get brought up, though. From 110 per 1000 women aged 25-29 to 70 per 1000 in 2021. That keeps falling too. No one wants kids. Families move out. Young people move in and get dogs.
But that's not this issue.
The San Fransisco shit map was great. The counter "You're a bully" thing was also funny. Point Ron. Law and Order does better with homelessness.
DeSantis 6 - Newsom 5
Question 11: Israel
On the issue, they both said the right thing. And then bitched at each other... tie.
DeSantis 7 - Newsom 6
Question 12: China
Ron is right, they are our number one foe. All Gavin does kiss their ass. But gavin is right, Ron pandered for Chinese money too. And there they go again...
True, Newsom did call out China for drugs and the Uyghurs, diplomatically. But Newsom didn't say anything negative like they're not turning the world against us. He deflected again.
They both deflected a lot. Final point, Ron, because it appears China owns Newsom.
Final Score: DeSantis 8 - Newsom 6
I guess that's it. And the final score. I really am a libertarian...
DeSantis wins with the weaker debate kung-fu. He flailed and still won. Which is hilarious.
Newsom debates better. But Ron beat him on my arbitrary point awarding, all non conservatives would say Newsom slaughtered him, and vice versa. I do feel Newsom gave Trump and Haley a bump.
And pretty much just assured Trump the Republican nomination.
That was fun. I want to see Trump v. Newsom

Royal Australian Navy personnel to maintain United Navy's submarines |

The U.S. Navy will conduct its first submarine maintenance work in Australia next summer using the sub tender Emory S. Land, with 30 Australian sailors embarked to learn how to repair the Virginia class of submarine.
Raven said Australian officers, sailors and government civilians are already in the nuclear training pipeline with the U.S. Navy and are learning attack sub maintenance procedures in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and at Barrow-in-Furness, England.
Story
I will spare the reader an outline of the massive obstacles and issues facing Australia's nuclear-powered submarine ambitions. But this might interest anyone interested in present USN and possible future RAN platforms.
I note how maintenance on the Virginia class will be undertaken with or on submarine tenders. There probably isn't room for a dry dock at HMAS Stirling, and work on the RAN's Collins class submarines is done in Adelaide.

I try not to speak badly of the dead, but thank God this evil little puppet master shit is gone. The world is a safer place without him. The evil ones live forever, it seems like.
Quote:Henry Kissinger, national security adviser and secretary of state under two presidents and longtime éminence grise of the U.S. foreign policy establishment, died on November 29 at his home in Connecticut. He was 100 years old.
Kissinger helped to prolong the Vietnam War and expand that conflict into neutral Cambodia; facilitated genocides in Cambodia, East Timor, and Bangladesh; accelerated civil wars in southern Africa; and supported coups and death squads throughout Latin America. He had the blood of at least 3 million people on his hands, according to his biographer Greg Grandin.
There were “few people who have had a hand in as much death and destruction, as much human suffering, in so many places around the world as Henry Kissinger,” said veteran war crimes prosecutor Reed Brody.
A 2023 investigation by The Intercept found that Kissinger — perhaps the most powerful national security adviser in American history and the chief architect of U.S. war policy in Southeast Asia from 1969 to 1975 — was responsible for more civilian deaths in Cambodia than was previously known, according to an exclusive archive of U.S. military documents and interviews with Cambodian survivors and American witnesses.

Shadow Person post (Because it felt like it was needed) |

So, I have posted this story before, it has become one of my favorite due to the Shadow Person isn't menacing, there is a photo involved, and the people who took the picture allowed me to use it and tell their story. My investigation notes are also include. The only difference is that I only included one photo since the other photo didn't seem interesting.
Date of event: 16 Jun 2012
Location of Event: Seattle Science Center, Seattle WA.
During the Egyptian history exhibit a Shadow Person was reported in the gold room by a married couple from Marysville WA. This event was witnessed by a few other people. Only one other person at the event was able to be contacted for a description of what they had seen. A member of the Set-up team had made a statement that they also spotted a Shadowy figure during the setup of the event. This eyewitness didn't witness the event in the gold exhibit room, so I will not include this testimony for this event.
The claim of the couple that did the reporting on this Shadow Person event stated that the shadowy figure seemed to be standing guard over some of the exhibited pieces. This claim was repeated by the other eyewitness to this event.
Added notes:
None of the people interviewed about this event claimed any feelings of malice or anger. Both the couple that did the reporting and the other contacted eyewitness both stated that the Shadow Person in question seemed to be standing guard but would fade out when looked at directly.
The member of the exhibit set up team had stated that there was a shadowy figure that would be reported as, "being seen out of the corner of your eye, but when looked at directly would simple vanish." This set up team member also added that the shadowy figure would stand out of the way but would seem to be keeping an eye on the people handling the pieces of the exhibit.
After seeing the pictures included, and interviewing the other eyewitnesses, I will have to conclude that this event has enough merit to place this event as a possible Shadow Person event.

Bavarian & Swabian food - South Germany's finest grandma approved recipes |

In alignment with the motto of this site "deny ignorance", I want to offer some insights into authentic German cooking.
Have you ever wanted to eat some special dish from a foreign country and searching for recipes? Only to discover that there are tons of variations and substitutions, sometimes even complete different dishes? Often when I search for famous recipes from different countries, there are a lot of self-made variations, that often do not represent the actual food I am looking for. Variations are nice but some dishes I have seen on English cooking boards that are allegedly German, could not be more far away from the actual experience.
That is why I start by offering easy to follow, step by step recipes with pictures and comments how to get there. For this I chose a few famous foods from my region and present them to you in the poll above. I will cook them and take photos so you don't miss any important steps. Even if you think you are bad at cooking but have not given up yet, you will be surprised how easy it can be. Without all the modern flashy riff-raff, "secret ingredients" or special techniques.
I hope to see similar threads from members that love to cook and are willing share their local recipes. Knowing this forum is just filling up, I will wait a few weeks and collect results, then start producing the recipes for you.
My standards are to use no artificial flavoring or sauce-fix products, not even sauce-binder. You will learn to substitute all this with your skills, instead of chemicals that are bad for your health. Don't be afraid, if you can cut an onion, you can pull of some of these recipes with good results.
The poll is multiple choice and I begin with the highest rated ones.

Talking head of the Knights Templar |

One of the accusations made against the Knights Templars was the issue of idolatry. In the case of the Templars the idol was a head or skull, depending on which source you read from. Now for a little bit of a disclaimer.
For the context of this thread, we will make a few assumptions:
(1) The human body and the soul are two separate things in which the body is a physical vessel for the metaphysical soul to inhabit.
(2) The body and soul can be operated without each other.
(3) The soul can be encased in other objects.
There is this device called an “Oracles’ Head”. The most famous of these is the supposed existence of Roger Bacon’s Brazen Head which he used to divine events and outcomes of choices he postulated to it. Other people who reportedly had one of these heads were; Anicius Manlius Severinus Boethius, Johann Georg Faust (yes that same Faust, but the real historical person no the character in the play) and Albertus Magnus.
The notion that the Knights Templar could have had one of these Oracles’ Heads would explain many of the odd stories of how they were able to escape with their treasure ships during the French Kings persecutions and how they were able to flee their castle along the French/Spanish boarder at the time.
Sure, some of the Templars were captured, but most went underground. It can be speculated that those captured (even Molay the head of the organization) didn’t have the head in their possession at the time.
This head was both defined as being the head of John the Baptist and/or Baphomet, and even charges of it being the Jewish god Moloch. What if it wasn’t any of these but instead it was a head shaped idol or even the real skull of a Templar founder, French knight Hugues de Payens. Necromancy has, throughout history, was a way to learn about events from both the past and the future. It was believed that the dead lived outside of time and could give these points of view as advisories to the living.
Now this wouldn’t excuse the Templars from the accusations of idol worship, but it would possibly excuse them for having use of it. One wouldn’t have to worship the head only have accessible position of it in order to benefit from its creation.
Oh, how could have been created? When the first Knights took to a encampment on the Temple Mount in the captured Al-Aqsa Mosque and started doing treasure digs at the site. They might have come across scrolls/documents about esoteric matters such as magic and relic crafting. Then when their leadership was near death, they might have removed the Knights soul and encased it in an idol or skull of a fallen Knight.
So, I’ll end this thread opener with the notion that could these talking heads that the Templars have been accused of worshipping had just been Oracles’ Heads, and if so, where did they end up? The Vatican, The French Monarchy, Switzerland where some of the French Templars fled from, or somewhere else?

Does hot water freeze faster than cold? |

A bucket of hot water will not freeze faster than a bucket of cold water. However, a bucket of water that been heated or boiled, then allowed to cool to the same temperature as the bucket of cold water , may breeze faster. Heating or boiling drives out some of the air bubbles in water; because air bubbles cut down thermal conductivity, they can inhibit freezing. For the same reason, previously heated water forms denser ice than unheated water, which is why hot-water pipes tend to burst before cold-water pipes.
