Range rover sport l320 issues |

Hi everyone, I have a 2005 range rover sport which 8s suffering from various electrical quirks, such as the wipers only working at high speed, the slow and automatic functions have just vanished. Both front electric windows have suddenly stopped working, both back ones are fine. There was a leak from the windscreen scuttle which I've now fixed and the car is drying out.
If anyone has this vehicle or any knowledge of land rovers/range rovers any help you can offer would be great fully recieved.
I'm pretty good with vehicles and do all repairs myself, whilst I know the car is nearly 20 years old I am very fond of her and don't really want to get rid of her. I'm UK based by the way.
Thanks in advance

As a result of the recent ISIS-K attack on Russia just take a look at what any American politician will say about what happened over there. Then you should be able to judge as to whether they are a decent human or are simply evil.
In my opinion we live in really weird times as many in the minority have taken up arms against traditional families, nations, races and religions. It’s almost to the point of being demonic from a religious perspective. The infiltration was started decades ago and has infiltrated all levels of USA government. I am not here to write this to debate the existence of a supreme being or a God. That’s up to you, your beliefs and to see just where "they" are trying to steer the world.
So in climbing back onto the hamster wheel in my cage I read this on Pravda today as I wanted to read their take on the Russian massacre as the last one was in 2014. Then another story was on their front web page about WWIII.
Back in the day I was big on what was being predicted. Sure they can be blown off along with that “book” as written over 2000 years ago.
Rapture? End Times? How about the period of Tribulation? Then we have the onset of AI which may be the end of humanity.
So regardless of your position here’s a decent read on what was said years ago.
From Russia……………………with love.

Remember the fuss about PCBs in the 70's and 80's? |

From ChemistryWorld: ‘Everyone thinks it’s a thing of the past’: PCB pollution may be worse now than before they were banned
Levels of toxic polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) released into the environment could be higher now than they were during peak production in the 1970s. Despite being banned for over 40 years, new estimates suggest that significant amounts of these carcinogenic chemicals are inadvertently being formed as byproducts of other chemical processes.
Apparently, while adhering to the letter of the law, they forgot its' spirit. Rather than regulate and measure all PCB types (there are some 200+) the wise management of government oversight only measures for PCBs that were in use 40 years ago. They get to show 'progress' as people finally stopped using them, but no one ever seemed to bother with any other types.
Of course, there's a theory that some of the 'new' unmeasured PCBs in the environment are actually "unintentionally" created as byproducts of other processes. Because we know the industry would have been completely robust in their accounting of any PCB's they produce and inject onto the atmosphere.
‘We banned this chemical, everyone thinks it’s a thing of the past … but they’re only measuring the dominant PCBs in the old commercial mixtures, so of course they’re going down because we’ve not been using [them] for 40 years, but all these other ones may have been going up, and we have been completely blind to this,’ explains Megson. ‘I’m hoping this research is going to stimulate people to go out and start looking at a variety of different chlorinated solvents and products to identify the true scale of this issue.’
...
Keri also agreed that categorising byproduct PCBs as emerging contaminants of concern would ‘draw attention’ to the ways that PCBs have been ‘ignored’ in the past and ‘force’ industry to remove them. ‘The authors point out that many studies are done with indicator PCBs instead of measuring all 209 PCBs. Many studies only measure a small number and that results in not measuring these byproduct PCBs at all. Many studies that do that miss this story entirely.’.
I remember when environmentalists were relentlessly active about this known threat to the environment, and the rest of us too.

“And Peter said to Jesus, ‘Lord, it is well that we are here; if you wish, I will make three booths here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah” (Matthew ch17 v4).
I was reminded of this episode recently by a wrong-headed interpretation of it found in Toynbee’s “Study of History”. I like Toynbee. I am carefully reading through this work for the fourth time. But his enthusiasm for his case sometimes moves him to build it upon inaccurate details, and this is one of them.
He is offering examples of Violent and Gentle reactions to the disintegrations of civilisations. He counts Peter initially as an example of the violent tendency, partly because of the ear-cutting incident at Gethsemane, and partly because of the declaration just quoted. He claims that Peter took the appearance of Elijah and Moses as the signal for a war of liberation, “proposing to build on the spot the nucleus of a camp of the kind that the Theudases and Judases of Galilee were wont to establish in the wilderness during the brief interval of grace before the Roman authorities received intelligence of their activities and sent out a flying column of troops to disperse them” (Volume V, p393, if you want to look it up).
Commentaries don’t always do better. One found on my bookshelves, ignoring the wording of the remark, suggests that Peter wanted to build shelters for the three disciples, being the ones who would need shelter, so that they could stay on the mountain longer. Most commentators discover an allusion to the annual Feast of Tabernacles, often called “Feast of Booths” in modern times. The RSV translation implies the same assumption.
But I suggest that Peter was not thinking of the annual feast at all, but of the original Tabernacle, the one established by Moses in order to meet with God. The word used by Peter (SKENE) is the same word used in Hebrews ch9 for the original Tabernacle.
I think he was remembering that the Tabernacle had been erected originally so that Moses could speak with God. Seeing Jesus, Moses and Elijah together, it occurred to him, in his understandably muddled state of mind, that they might need one each. Hence the proposal.

My take on debate |

Frankly, debate has a very odd public image.
I imagine the imagery surrounding debate is terribly afflicted with bad examples. Most of them are provided to the public via the showmanship of media exploitation. We often see abundant examples of "poor" debate in the public venues of the internet. Popular talking heads are featured prominently in internet monetized 'clips' which announce in their titles with taglines like "So and so crushes such and such." Usually, no such 'crushing' ever takes place, and the 'producers' simply appeal to the presumed love of one side or the others' bias. Most times there is not enough within the content to provide a basis to interpret the exchange as a debate at all.
Other examples feature something which is also not really debate at all. Our "political" debates are not even close. The moderators are weak, more concerned with form than function. The participants are campaigning, not debating. To add insult to injury, they aren't even addressing each other's points, just jabbing and engaging in populism and showmanship. Theater... you gotta love it, right?
Less thoughtful debaters are often thwarted by their own inability to stay away from attacking each other personally. And some even can't fathom that the topic is more important than opponent. They will casually use phrases like "You are just like a ...." or "People like you..." sadly considering a good quip or funny meme "a winning blow." There is place and time for such things, debate is not one of them. Name-calling, hyperbolic characterizations, extreme misinterpretations are all things we used to never accept except in activist journalism... and even then, it was recognized as opinion... now it seems it is sought after, and exalted as if it were a circus act... entertainment for its own sake. While debate can be entertaining, and even feature tremendous humor and wit, it will always be relevant to the central subject.
“In all debates, let truth be thy aim, not victory, or an unjust interest.” ― William Penn
In practice, debate is about cooperation. Part of the matter is accepting from the onset that each participant has an object to explain one side of the argument. Each will assist the other by diligently addressing their opponent's argument directly, asking focused questions for response, acknowledging not only their opponent's problematic points, but their own as well. More often than not, both sides learn something, and any lucky audience can benefit from the exchange. I've seen debate winners that never 'proved' their point, and I've seen debaters who did, and still 'lost.'
It doesn't work all the time. Sometimes debates are about issues which transcend, in part, pure reason... because that is how life works... lest we be robots. But debaters are not 'competitors' exactly. Like craftsmen creating something, they each contribute to an edifice. A building of some worth, for those interested in the topic especially. The result can be strong, beautiful, or rickety and weak... it's the effort that shines.
"Fun" debates can be silly, or not. "Serious" debates can be enthralling, or not. Debate isn't necessarily about what the debaters believes, or the truths they individually hold to. It's about the manner in which they can muster an argument... whether they can be cogent, direct, and efficient in defending or promoting their cause.
There's always merit to having a debate. -Ward Churchill
It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it. - Joseph Joubert
Soon we will be launching our debates here at Deny Ignorance... My hope is that we start small and work our way to the heavy topics... I think suggestions are in order, and nothing is off the table. I will give some example ideas... none of which are at all especially provocative... but I'm never one to shy away from the thrill of provocation. I tend to accept the underdog side, just because that's my preference, but I suggest you give it some thought...
I'm not certain that this particular thread is the right place to submit suggestions, being made of my own musings, I will inquire if we can formalize a destination for all your ideas...
Now ... on with some examples of debate topics...
Nursing Homes in America should be regulated by the government.
Abolish and reestablish all political parties.
Pet owners should be 'certified' before becoming responsible for pets.
Parents should be 'certified' prior to parenting.
Early schooling should include civic study as a prerequisite.
Media News services should publicly announce everything they report as an "entertainment" production.
Public representatives should have no privacy "in office."
The death penalty is murder.
These are just 'spit balling' ideas, and not really my suggestions for anyone to jump on (unless they want to,) but you get the idea.
This country is about, in my judgment, aggressive, open debate.
There is an old saying: When everyone is thinking the same thing, no one is thinking very much. - Byron Dorgan

March 24th "Worm Moon" - partial Lunar eclipse |

From LiveScience: See the full 'Worm Moon' eclipsed by Earth's shadow this weekend, exactly 2 weeks before the April 8 total solar eclipse
Subtitled: The full "Worm Moon's" brightness will dim during a penumbral lunar eclipse on March 25, exactly two weeks before a total solar eclipse crosses North America.
Late notice (sorry,) but it is possible you might want to see this event...
((Picture of a Penumbral eclipse in 2017 taken in Pakistan))
The third full moon of 2024 — sometimes nicknamed the "Worm Moon" for the worms and beetles commonly seen emerging at the beginning of spring, according to the Farmer's Almanac — will move through Earth's outer shadow, resulting in a slight penumbral lunar eclipse that will make the full moon appear dimmer as an odd-looking shadow moves across its surface.
You'll actually have two opportunities to see this special event before April 8th solar eclipse...
In North America, there will be two important times to observe the moon. The first is at dusk on Sunday, March 24, when the full Worm Moon will rise in the east. You can find the exact time for your location on this moonrise calculator. (The moon will also appear bright and full one day before and after the true full moon.)
The second observation window is a few hours later, during the early hours of Monday, March 25, when the full moon will move through Earth's outer shadow — its penumbra — between 12:53 and 5:32 a.m. EDT. Over four hours and 39 minutes, Earth's shadow will gradually move across the lunar surface from southeast to northwest from our perspective.
Enjoy!

Asbestos in the US, finally banned? |

Years behind many other countries, and despite push-back from industry special interests, the US finally (and officially) bans most common asbestos.
The U.S. is prohibiting the use of chrysotile asbestos, joining more than 50 other countries that have already outlawed the substance. The ban comes after decades of pushback from companies that have used it in everything from consumer goods to manufacturing processes.
Of course, this is a ban born of American political "compromise" so don't get too excited. It's not a complete elimination of the known cancer-causing substance so cherished by the industry... and it won't be "immediate," nor will it mean anything like an 'admission of harm' by the companies who can't imagine a future without asbestos...
Producers will have five years to transition from using asbestos diaphragms to ones that don't contain the substance. Those that shift from asbestos diaphragms to non-asbestos membrane technology will have five years to convert their first facility, eight years to convert their second and 12 years to convert their third.
Form an article in NPR: The U.S. bans most common form of asbestos, after decades of pushback from industry

Early Easter Island had contact with South America |

I actually thought that the Easter Island habitants were totally isolated from other peoples, and had been until explorers "found" them.
I had to update myself on that note because apparently early on they had contact with people from South America, and scientists have proved it in multiple ways, from items excavated in early settlements, to analysis of the starches contained in their foods.
From Archeology: Early Settlers of Rapa Nui Had Contact With South America
From LiveScience: Obsidian blades with food traces reveal 1st settlers of Rapa Nui had regular contact with South Americans 1,000 years ago
And citing a PLOS ONE journal: Identification of breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) and South American crops introduced during early settlement of Rapa Nui (Easter Island), as revealed through starch analysis
One thousand years ago, the first settlers of Rapa Nui — also known as Easter Island — feasted on a fusion cuisine of plants native to Polynesia but also ones indigenous to South America, around 2,300 miles (3,700 kilometers) away, a new study finds.
Researchers discovered the food remnants by identifying starch grains clinging to obsidian blades at the archaeological site of Anakena, the earliest known settlement on Rapa Nui, which was occupied from about A.D. 1000 to 1300, according to the study, published Wednesday (March 20) in the journal PLOS One. The finding suggests that the early Polynesians had regular contact with the people of South America as far back as a millennium ago.

What could a white-collar airport executive have that they went after him so hard and fast? Had to be something big
Had to be more than selling a rifle at a gun show...
https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/national...s/5248669/
An executive for the Little Rock, Arkansas, airport who was killed in a shootout with federal agents this week had been under investigation over gun sales, search warrant records unsealed Thursday show.
Bryan Malinowski, 53, who was executive director of Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport, was shot after he opened fire at federal agents who arrived to serve a warrant Tuesday morning, officials said, according to NBC News.
Malinowski died Thursday, his family said. His brother has said he was shot in the head.
An affidavit filed by an agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that was unsealed Thursday says the search involved an investigation into the sale of firearms without a license.

A Clinton Airport Executive has died after ATF federal agents raided his home and shot him
53-year-old Bryan Malinowski, the executive director of Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport, has died from injuries sustained in a shootout with ATF federal agents during a raid to execute a search warrant at his residence in West Little Rock, Arkansas. His brother recounted the events, alleging that agents forcibly entered the home and fatally shot Bryan with a high-caliber rifle, leaving the family confused. 'The ATF burst into his house in the most dangerous manner possible,' said the brother. 'The easiest and most common way to handle this situation would have been to wait until he got in his car, pull him over, and arrest him.

DIY Activated Charcoal Water Filter |

I'd like to tell you about a water filter I have just made.
It's an Activated Charcoal filter for tap water and in a SHTF scenario for my well water. The well water is really clear and nice but without a proper test there's no telling what could actually be in there,. It's only 4m deep but filtered through limestone. The tap water contains treatments like chlorine. Yuck!
The filter I made uses a stacking aluminium set of 4 camping bowls with a deep one on the bottom. About 1 liter for the 3 shallow bowls and perhaps 2 litres for the bottom one. It has a lid and a clasp to hold the whole lot together and now hangs in my kitchen on the very convenient carry handle.
I made the activated charcoal by using barbecue charcoal made from local untreated forest wood, smashed it up in a large stainless casserole with a club hammer and sieved it into granules about 3mm - 6mm in diameter with a garden sieve. I sieved it again with a kitchen sieve to remove the power which I use for brushing my teeth along with lemon juice and bicarbonate of soda. Not as bad as it sounds. lol
I then soaked the granules for a couple of days in 4 parts distilled water to 1 part freshly squeezed lemon juice. Nice slushy mix. This is to open up all those pores in the charcoal that would allow water to be filtered through it rather than round it and it stops the charcoal just floating.
I put a tap in the bottom and drilled about sixty or so 1.5mm holes in the bases of the 3 shallow pans, nice even spacing in circles. The top 3 pans were lined inside the bottom with circles of cooker hood extractor filter sheet.
I then filled each of the 3 shallow pans about half way up with the activated charcoal and stacked the whole thing together.
After washing through with around 10 litres of water, I removed the charcoal and washed off the pads to remove any residual powder caught in them which would inhibit the flow in future.
All I do now is remove the lid, fill it gradually with a 1 litre jug, open the tap and fill one of those pyrex glass coffee machine jugs that has a small hole in the plastic lid. Dribbles in perfectly with no spill.
Works a treat and no more buying bottled water. No more wasted plastic bottles too. I have about 100 2 litre bottles to fill having saved plenty.
I will use the water for cooking, drinking, the kettle, the aquariums, my rat and will maybe use it for watering "special" plants this year. I'm keeping an eye on the PH too just to check it remains neutral.
Shelf life for the activated charcoal in there should be about 4-6 months, then I'll chuck it on the veggie garden and make some more. The bag of charcoal I bought contains enough for a couple of years, same for the distilled water (5L). All I'll need to buy is lemons/citrus. I also have plenty of filter pad left over.
I love inventing and no longer drink juice, so water is a little more important now.
For those interested, this is similar to the kind of pan set I used but mine is has 4 pans, not 5: Stacking Camping Pan Set
Cheers.

There are a few good player run servers out there...I just started a new character on the Coldeve server.
For a 20+ year old game, it's more in depth than many new games on the market.
It's totally free and fairly easy to install and get running...but there's not a ton of information out there like there used to be.

After the "other site" went down and all accounts were frozen, I didn't reactivate my account as the place "felt" different somehow, as time went on the political push became ever more apparent, I still lurked and read, never responding though on some days the temptation to weigh in was almost too great.
I'm very very pleased that this refuge has appeared, it has the "old vibe" about it, at least for now, and I will be looking forward to getting involved in what we all went "there" for in the first instance.
Great to be here and Thankyou in advance

I’ve experienced more than my share of strangeness and encounters but this was new.
A couple of months ago, Jan 28th I believe it was. I had worked til 9:00. It was a 10 he shift so I just wanted to shower and get to bed. The weather was very bad out, sleet/snow mix.
I no sooner later down and I heard my text ding, I was charging on my windowsill. I rolled over to see who it was, and to my amazement I saw what looked like a small engine plane gliding slowly through my parking lot. I thought whoa this plane is either going to crash into my bldg or it’s trying to land in the parking lot.
It was for sure not going to make the parking lot. Then it suddenly flashed ;one light at a time), and these were the brightest lights I’ve ever seen.
First White, green, green, white, and I swear I could hear the lights flipping on. They were big panels. Then it slowly disappeared.
I googled my town, and apparently back in 2012 someone in my town reported a ghost plane, but it didn’t mention the lights!
Anyone ever experience this too?
