Why not stick to foundational principles which are best for the country?

Why stop at just the under-exploited Venezuelan oil? They are only the world largest crude reserve to control. But there are others to take too.  There's underexploited Iranian and Nigerian oil to destroy nature with too..

And both countries are totally asking for it!

It will be, "they kill protestors" for Iran, who has the 3rd largest oil reserve in the world.

And "ISIS" checks the box for Nigeria, the 10th largest reserve on the planet.

So this isn't transparent at all.  If you believe the phrases, "drug crime syndicate," "regime that is killing protestors," and "ISIS is killing Christians" you're all set. Just believe in democratic freedom for every Vietnamese Venezuelan, Iranian, and Nigerian, and don't pay attention to the refinery behind the curtain as always. 

Venezuela. Iran. Nigeria. In that order. 

They all share three things. Large amounts of oil, ultra-friendly Chinese BRICS partnerships, and some sellable reason to justify taking administrative control in the name of magnanimous liberation.

Now you're getting it. While we very likely will not have a problem with Iran, there is a risk that oil through the Strait of Hormuz will be affected during their transition to democracy. With Venezuela under our belt, that minor tactical risk is no longer a problem to us or our allies.
