The press then re-interpreted their carefully-worded statement as a declaration that the laptop was Russian misinformation.

They're guilty of not looking too closely, and making an overly circumspect statement that one could easily foresee would be misinterpreted. But that's not a crime. Or even, provably, professional misconduct.

The FBI had quickly established, months earlier, that the laptop was really Hunter Biden's, and these 51 were getting regular high level security briefings. They were told to sign the letter so that Biden, the Deep State presidential puppet candidate, would have talking points during the debate,  two weeks before the election.
