Might be of interest to the Yanks. Professor Michael Clarke just did his weekly Q & A.............
"When you are here for the good of the planet and humanity, the other levels are always trying to protect you in times of danger."

Trump is kicking the can down the road, because he's afraid to go forward or back out.

If he just pulled out all the military forces he's put in place to conduct this Special Military Operation and declared victory at this point, he would have achieved none of his stated objectives and Iran would still be in control of the Strait of Hormuz.  And he would be an obvious loser.

If he restarted kinetic operations, it's not clear what the objectives would be and whether he could achieve them. The only obvious one would be to recover by force the enriched uranium that's buried at Isfahan.  That's probably feasible, but it would be a large, extended operation and is not guaranteed success.  Again, he risks being seen as a loser.

By prolonging the closure of the Strait, he's hoping that Iran will cry uncle first and eventually agree on terms that will allow Trump to claim he won.

However, that may or may not happen and by choosing this line of action, he is essentially guaranteeing to throw the world into a global recession similar in magnitude to the COVID economic disruption of 2020.  The global GDP shrank by a bit more than 3% that year. The pandemic was not Trump's responsibility even though he happened to be occupying the Oval Office at the time.  This one would clearly be seen as Trump's fault since this was a poorly thought out war of choice on his part. This outcome would almost certainly ensure a Democratic landslide electoral victory in the mid-terms and end his effectiveness as POTUS.  Plus, it would bring down enormous pressure on him from the rest of the world, which would likely suffer economically much more than the US.  He still risks being called a loser with this strategy, but maybe 6 months down the road instead of today.

Just some of the thoughts from Germany's Chancellor .
Quote:German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said the leadership in Tehran is humiliating U.S. President Donald Trump's administration, the strongest criticism yet by the country at the heart of the European Union, G7 and NATO of the United States' approach to the war in Iran.

"The Iranians are clearly stronger than expected, and the Americans clearly have no truly convincing strategy in the negotiations either," Merz said during a school visit in Marsberg, a town in his home region of Sauerland.

Merz also accused Trump of going into the war without any strategy and warned it could degenerate into a quagmire, like the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. He called the war "a pretty tangled situation" that was "costing us a great deal of money."

For some reason, Merz doesn't realize that America won weeks ago. We are ahead of schedule and under budget. We just need to tie up a few loose ends.

That will go quickly now because Trump regime changed Iran, and the new government wants to make a deal.

2 months in and the pro-Iranian crowd is calling it a quagmire, and this is coming from Americans and American politicians.

Good thing those that are calling it a quagmire are not in charge.

Israel would be a mushroom cloud and the ME would be in a massive war with Europe in the crosshairs and the US just waiting on a backpack nuke.
You must develop the ability to be disliked in order to free yourself from the prison of other people's opinions.
After German Chancellor Merz comments, Trump would like to take his toys and go home.
Quote:President Donald Trump on Wednesday leveled a new threat against NATO ally Germany, suggesting he could soon reduce the U.S. military presence there as he continues to feud with Chancellor Friedrich Merz over the U.S-Israel war against Iran.

Trump made the threat after Merz earlier this week said that the U.S. was being “humiliated” by the Iranian leadership and criticized Washington’s lack of strategy in the war. Trump has
also repeatedly railed against NATO for the alliance’s refusal to assist the U.S. in its two-month-old war.

“The United States is studying and reviewing the possible reduction of Troops in Germany, with a determination to be made over the next short period of time,” Trump said in a social media post.

Because strategically it most important to get in the last word.
