—Churchill, de Gaulle, and now Franklin D. Roosevelt

—hovered together on that same misty hillside, the English Channel shimmering below like a half-forgotten map of the old world order.

Churchill puffed his cigar with a wry grin, de Gaulle stood ramrod-straight with arms crossed, and FDR, wheeled in on a spectral chair with his trademark cigarette holder clenched in his teeth, surveyed the scene with growing exasperation.

"By Jove, Franklin," Churchill rumbled, gesturing toward the distant lights of Europe,
"our Continental friends have told Trump to shove his request for ships up the Strait of Hormuz itself. 'Not our war,' they say!

Germany won't send a single frigate because their powerful U.S. Navy can handle it alone.
France is saving its navy for the après-guerre cocktail hour, and the rest are too busy counting euros to risk a splash of Persian Gulf water.

"De Gaulle sniffed. "As I predicted, Winston. The Europeans have become a debating society with excellent cheese but no backbone. They cheered when America carried the burden in two world wars, but now that the oil flows are threatened and the bill comes due? 'Non, merci. This is not our fight.'

Typical."FDR's eyes narrowed behind his pince-nez, his face flushing with that old Hyde Park fire. He slammed a ghostly fist on the arm of his chair, sending ripples through the fog.

"Disgusting!" he barked, his voice carrying the righteous thunder that once rattled Congress.

"I built this alliance from the ashes of tyranny—Lend-Lease, the Atlantic Charter, the whole damn arsenal of democracy—so free men could stand together against aggressors who choke the world's lifelines.

We didn't liberate Europe just so her grandchildren could hide behind American skirts while Iranian fanatics turn the Strait of Hormuz into a floating parking lot for burning tankers!

"These so-called allies—Germany lecturing us on whose war it is?

The same country we had to drag kicking and screaming into the 20th century twice?

France, always ready with a veto and a shrug? They've forgotten that collective security isn't a one-way street where Uncle Sam pays the toll and they get the scenic view.

If Hitler had closed the English Channel or the Mediterranean, do you think we'd have said, 'Sorry, Winston, not our war—handle your U-boats with your powerful Royal Navy'?

We poured blood and treasure into NATO so that when a real threat arises—not some border skirmish, but a chokehold on global energy that hits every democracy's wallet—they'd show up with more than press releases and diplomatic word salad.

Instead, they cower, virtue-signal about 'de-escalation,' and leave the heavy lifting to the one nation that still remembers what 'arsenal of democracy' means.

He's right to call it a foolish mistake.

If they won't sail with us now, why should we bleed for them later?

The next time some new bully tests Article 5, I hope the ghosts of Yalta remind them: alliances die not from enemies without, but from freeloaders within.
