Context and timing: Patel has been vocal about Iranian cyber threats. Just days ago (around March 19–20), the Justice Department disrupted Iranian-linked operations, including those by Handala, involving threats to dissidents and journalists. Patel himself commented on related investigations. There were also earlier reports (late 2024) that Iranian actors targeted him during his FBI nomination process.
