Trump says he bombed Iran
(03-26-2026, 12:32 PM)SteamyAmerican Wrote: I mean yeah. During the first Gulf war. But we’ve been over their my whole life and ain’t much changed as far as I can tell.

Fun fact. Iraq just joined the war on behalf of Iran. Isn’t that something?

Good, now we are getting to the heart of the matter.

First and foremost, in my book, there were 2 Gulf Wars:

the first Gulf War, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm were contemporaneously incredibly successful.

This success, combined with 9/11, made the Gulf War 2003 sequel possible.

Quote:

Technically, there were two Gulf Wars.

Here's the clear breakdown:

1. First Gulf War (1990–1991)

Also known as:Gulf War
Operation Desert Storm (the combat phase)
Persian Gulf War

Triggered when Iraq, under Saddam Hussein, invaded and annexed Kuwait in August 1990.
A U.S.-led international coalition (34 countries) expelled Iraqi forces from Kuwait in early 1991.
It was a short, decisive conventional war that ended with a ceasefire in February 1991.
Iraqi forces were pushed out of Kuwait, but Saddam Hussein remained in power.

2. Second Gulf War (2003–2011)Also known as:
Iraq War
Operation Iraqi Freedom (U.S. name)
Second Persian Gulf War

This was the 2003 invasion of Iraq by a U.S.-led coalition (mainly U.S. and UK).
Justification included claims that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and ties to terrorism (both later proven largely unfounded or exaggerated).
The regime of Saddam Hussein was toppled quickly, but it led to a long, bloody insurgency and occupation that lasted until U.S. combat troops withdrew in 2011.

Why people sometimes debate "how many Gulf Wars?

"Some historians and news outlets only refer to the 1991 conflict as "the Gulf War."

The 2003 war is more commonly called the "Iraq War" rather than "Second Gulf War."

However, many serious sources (including military historians, encyclopedias, and academics) do recognize both as Gulf Wars because:

Both were major wars centered in the Persian Gulf region.
Both involved the same primary adversaries (U.S./coalition vs. Iraq).
Both were fought over issues stemming from Iraq's regional ambitions and behavior.

Quick Summary:Conflict

First Gulf War
1990–1991
Gulf War / Desert Storm
Liberate Kuwait
Kuwait freed, Saddam stays in power

Second Gulf War
2003–2011
Iraq War
Remove Saddam + WMDs/terrorism
Saddam removed, long insurgency

Short answer:
Yes — there were technically two Gulf Wars. The first one in 1991 and the second (more commonly called the Iraq War) in 2003.

Secondly there's more pro-American Iranians historically and currently than we ever had in Iraq.

Hell, 10 years into the Gulf War, the sequel, long-time American contractors still couldn't leave the green zone.

I don't think Trump wants to micro-manage the political terraforming as President Dick Cheney did ( and if you know you know and if you don't look it up.

Just like 'publicly' waging war, even talking about war...

Is like setting leaves on fire in a forest.

For now we contort, prod and poke, in support of those things we see as reasonable, while attacking in dissent any utterances to the contrary... for fun.

The give and take is another dimension of competition.  Further complicated by virtue signaling and mass media amplifications, once again, for entertainment.

You ever wonder why you can't really have this kind of exchange, face to face?  Because it seems that personal respect used to be human "currency. (Many debates could follow.)

The only reason I see, is not killing and hurting other people.  Not "making them suffer" for the things their leader's actually 'represent' (as opposed to what "they say" they represent.)

In the end, most mouthpieces "say" they don't want war...
but every perception I register tells me that for them, this "is their virtue moment."

The profession media productions run fat with talking heads... all "loosely" associated... former "this," chair person of "that," advocate for "the other"... added to it, the voices of entertainment professionals... so we can all know what 'they" think.

It's alchemy I tells ya,
how most are "told" all about complicated things...
like why someone's cousin has to die thousands of miles away,
effectively, only for the combine, in the end... for only they ever (with political investment) "win-win."
Trump said at his latest Cabinet meeting that the UK promised to send an aircraft carrier.

No, we did not.  Another lie.
'l'll just check my Giveashitometer....Nope.  Nothing...

I mean maybe?

But we’re also talking about the guy who said he’d bomb Kharg island “just for fun”.

So. Yeah.

We could start a whole nother thread to compile a list of the evils perpetrated from the US/Israeli government and military onto the world and its own people

Much of the crime mirrors the Iranian regime

Some people like to ignore or downplay it, though

They drank too much kool-aid

Hogwash.

America today, Israel today ..... do not throw gay people off rooftops as a matter of national standard.   LGBTQ are treated equally.    We do not jail tens of thousands of women for showing hair on their head and proceed to rape them in prison as standard procedure.   We do not disappear tens of thousands of protestors and political activists.   We do not have torture prisons full of innocent people.   We have laws that say people can worship any way they want to, or that they can not worship if they want to .. unlike Iran that goes after nonMuslims as 'waging war against God'.   We don't engage in terrorism around the world.   We attack only in self defense, unlike Iran that attacks others simply because they exist.

And shame on OldCarpy for liking your post saying that the USA mirrors Iran.   Antiamerican drivel.  absurd.   Thumbdown
The 'stupid meter' just got pegged on this thread
Not going to bother with it anymore.
I have better things to do with my time.

Hogwash ?

It's anti American to speak out against pedophiles, crime and corruption taking place in the highest offices?

That's disturbing...

Truth is, there isn't a government anywhere on this planet that isn't evil

Yet, we've got societies of clapping seals cheering on criminals & waving flags like it's a team sport

The idea of America being as wholesome as apple pie is propaganda from a bygone era

It's fake, manufactured mindslop

Sounds like how Trump feels about the entire afair now.

And still no off-ramp nor exit strategy in sight.
