Quote:My understanding being Israeli troops or ground combat forces were never deployed to Afghanistan for rather obvious reasons.
That would be the obvious reasons part.
I don't doubt the support role they played or the contributions made.
But i can only imagine the problems that would have arisen should they have been deployed in a battlefield capacity.
Hence the reason i asked.
It was a hot topic at the time.

Im not suggesting they did not cooperate in the likes of intelligence sharing, or support capacity.
But as far as i can establish, their troops were not deployed on the battlefield.
In the same way, forces from UK, Canada, Germany, and Australia sent troops.
They went in country, I never did.

IDF Medical Corps deployed to Afghanistan?
Which Units?
I mean its clear Israel is a major non-NATO ally of the United States.
And that they provided significant military technology and intelligence.
But as far as i can establish, they avoided putting boots on the ground in Afghanistan.
Because of the political tensions it would have created with the locals and elsewhere.

I don't know everything and I don't even want to speculate.
All I know for a fact is that we worked with IDF forced in country and out. I know personally about out because we invited 2 of them to our unit Christmas party where we took over an entire German Inn and got roaring drunk (pissed as you say in UK)

Fair play, but Israel is not part of "ISAF."
And has never sent its military to fight or serve in Afghanistan as a sovereign contingent.
I mean a search will clearly show that their medical and military personnel have been sent abroad on humanitarian or diplomatic missions on numerous occasions.
They have had field hospitals and medical teams in disaster zones like Haiti, Kosovo, Rwanda, and Turkey.
But never as part of combat operations, medical or otherwise, in Afghanistan.
Glad you had a good time all the same and got "pissed."

IDF played a non-combat role until the epic fury of the lion of Judah's roar.
In Afghanistan and Iraq, though willing, the inclusion of IDF troops on the ground, "Would have sent the wrong message."
We wanted the Afghans and Iraqis to turn and work alongside coalition troops and many would NOT join a counterterrorism operation that included IDF troops.
It was a deliberately manipulative "hearts and minds" thing. But the IDF was basically a counterterrorism tactical laboratory and provided detailed intelligence reports on most all batshit muslim terror networks.
I think how much the world has changed since then. Now Great/Little Satan can stop dicking around with Iran and do this without the gulf states pulling their diplomats.
That's actually kind of amazing. Good on the military for focusing on clearing the straight of Iranians. The other countries that matter need their oil commerce.
But I think what we really had to wait for was the world's white garmented oil sheikhs to embrace ostentatious capitalism (like China) and want to build ridiculous cyber punk cities of the future.
Now, they may look at Tehren, and its lack of modern LED covered skyscrapers, and think, "WTF is wrong with them?"
In the 80s and 90s they shunned the decadence of Western Culture. Then they became the more decadent version of Western Culture. And in the last few decades.
So once that happened God was Great in a more "First Class Emirates Sky Suite" type of way.

So what does winning look like here? What has to happen for this to be done?
What if we can’t do those things from the air.
These are questions no one knows the answer to, and that’s a problem.

Just because YOU don't have the answers doesn't mean that there aren't any.

I worked with IDF troops. OK, fair enough. How does that make them BETTER allies than the other nations who sent troops?
