And you've got some extremist fundamentalist christians in the deep south ... but they are a small fraction of the united states.
The issue is the people you've named are at the top of the pyramid and are making decisions lead by their beliefs that are affecting the lives of millions.
You also had a band wagon of sycophantic 'preachers' live on TV laying on of hands with a nation watching.

Trump is an adultering serial liar.
Who says he doesn't believe in Heaven or Hell or reincarnation.
(he said so)
I don't think religion is his motivation.
Nor the motivation of most of his cabinet and worker bees.
I'm just not seeing it.

Hard to forget that.
That's just Trump being Trump. I do understand him being upset with our Starmer liberal leftie commie establishment. The times the Yanks have saved or helped us out. Just ignore his silly statements, pray to G-d he's sorting the planet out

Plainly said, he's not getting into heaven, which means he entertains the concept.
Does that mean he's going to hell?
And if so, is he willing to take the rest of the world with him in an attempt to leave his mark?
What are his motivations?
And how far is he willing to go would seem to be a question worth pondering.

If you have anything reasonable to say, hopefully it will work its way up the chain.
He's been acting on my recommendations for years. Plenty of people read up here. I'm guessing Hegseth too

So that somehow makes it ok to insult our fallen and maimed service men and women who served alongside their American allies?
The statement he came away with was rather deplorable and unforgivable imho.

After all the horrible things British liberal lefties say about Trump and the Rep party I wouldn't worry about it. Remember please Andy, sticks and stones will beak your bones but words will never hurt you.

That would be a deep dive into his psych and personality and everything else.
None of us can do that. He lies so much and things are never what they appear.
But I can say with some certainty that I think his motivation is NOT religion.
I could be wrong. But everything about him goes in the opposite direction of
being genuinely religious.
