I'm saying I think it's planted for two reasons.
1 - That's not how the US Army works. I was in it. I know. You have a point that I'm from a different time period but I think people have gotten LESS religious over time rather than more.
2 - The bulk of the story is that idiot fundamentalists in charge are telling troops that this is fulfilling Christian End Times prophecy .... but if you look at the bible and Christian End Times prophecy you find that Iran isn't a player in it. It's the MUSLIM End Times prophecies that have Iran as a player.
Being that this is a conspiracy board, I think this story would be a good thread to discuss a conspiracy.
Its the Guardian, might as well be reading the Tehran Times

There is nothing to back up that it's real or that the alleged complaints are honest.
I can see maybe one or two fundamentalists squeezing through into positions of power and spouting nonsense here or there. They aren't the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree. But the notion that this misbehavior is massive or sanctioned or frequent .... bah.

I saw a few Christian fundamentalist think this could be "end times" prophecy (we even have one here on D.I.) when Iran's nuclear ambitions were destroyed last summer
There may be a few fanatics spewing this kind of nonsense in the military perhaps?
Quote: Iran in Bible Prophecy – What Jeremiah 49 and Ezekiel 38 Say About Persia and Elam
The Prophecy of Elam in Jeremiah 49:34-39
Ancient Elam was located in southwestern modern-day Iran. In this section of Jeremiah, he delivers God’s prophetic messages concerning many kingdoms, ending with Elam. Most of these prophecies concerning other kingdoms had a historical fulfillment, exactly as God predicted. However, many Bible scholars struggle to find a historic fulfillment of the prophecy concerning Elam. There has not been a complete historical fulfillment of this prophecy. Thus, it seemed to await a future fulfillment.
During the June 2025 Twelve-Day War between Israel and Iran, our ministry alerted Christians to carefully watch how the situation would develop. At that time, some prophecy students suggested that Jeremiah 49:35 could be fulfilled:
“Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.”
The bow and arrow were Elam’s military might. Some wondered if the long-range missiles and nuclear capabilities could be a modern equivalent of Iran’s military might. We urged people to wait and see, based on what the next verses predict will happen when Elam’s bow is broken.
Notice the next prophecy in this passage, “And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come” (Jer. 49:36). In recent years, high inflation, a collapsing economy, strict religious laws, and increasing violence against its own citizens have caused hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of Iranians to leave the country, scattering around the world. But there are more boxes to check concerning this prophecy before it is marked fulfilled.

It's on several 'papers' websites, not just the Guardian.

I think they are reeeeeeeaaaaaally stretching the prophecy to try to make Iran fit.
Like I said, I suppose a few of the nutballs could have gotten through the system.
But it wouldn't be sanctioned, not encouraged, not tolerated.

Just the same story from the same source being passed around.
The original story is what has to be checked out.
And there is no way to do that. So ...

Hegseth and Huckabee have both been on the record talking about Greater Israel.
Hegseth has talked about building the third temple.
If the Secretary of State and ambassador to Israel feel comfortable talking about those, I don’t see how lower level guys making this a religious war is far fetched.
It certainly wouldn’t be the first instance of US officials bringing religion into the realm of policy.

You should probably back up those assertions with links.
Just saying something or posting no context quotes ain't holding water.
