Trump is in talks with Russia to end the war
(05-26-2025, 09:15 AM)putnam6 Wrote: Yeah, I saw that, we have very little clue what's occurring in the Kremlin, but it's easy to think certain factions may want to punish Ukraine hard, if those factions have Putin's ear or his Яички.

Everything Ive read suggests once Trump has completely given up finding a peaceful solution, America will still "sell" weapons to Ukraine or through NATO member nations to Ukraine, it just won't be anywhere near the previous levels.

People getting pissy because he hasn't stopped a 3-year-old war after just 150 days in office, shows how unrealistically and illogically "normal' people think and regurgitate sound political sound bites as solid factual declarations. If you watch what is happening militarily, it will highlight what will happen politically.

If Russian missiles can beat Patriot air defense systems consistently, it's all over. Unless we want to get into how we can better manufacture and replace systems repeatedly.

Yes, I know Ukraine received some refurbished decommissioned Patriot systems from Israel; some unconfirmed accounts suggest those may have already been compromised.

Here's where Putin is even more dangerous: even with Russia holding the upper hand, he may feel the need to punish and degrade the Ukrainian military and the will of the Ukrainian people. Putin has to "win" this SMO, and the spoils of his victory must be obvious and exploited.

Once that starts in earnest, there will be no diplomacy or peace talks. He will make sure the captured provinces will be secure and productive areas, he will remove anything that poses a threat to that end goal.

We’re back to mean tweets.

I’m still waiting for cheap gas.

Hope he does like last time and stay out of these foreign wars.

He said he'd do it in 24 hours.

Perhaps most everything  he says are political sound bites or, ahem, just bollox?

That's how I pretty much feel too...

First thing you learn in couples therapy... You need to understand the other person's motivations, not agree, but understand them

It's hard to argue against...

That if China did to Mexico what the US did in propping up the opposition in Ukraine, America would legitimately go "bugchit". Not sure they would invade specifically, but let's just say certain US departments would be wielding their influence, if not outright stopping it from occurring.

But Im not against American participation in foreign wars, just

This particular one is not winnable without risking a huge escalation potential and/or a 5-plus years commitment with no plan for actually winning the war we are committed to.

Been saying this since the first posts on ATS... we might need to revisit those threads.

It all depends on whether Trump will impose crippling sanctions on Russia which he is now talking about after calling Putin "absolutely CRAZY".
Wil he?  Won't he?

Who knows?

You and RickyD have also seemed to have missed just how much Russia has also lost to the 'meat grinder' in this war, and how much this 3 year war has hurt it's forces and economy. It isn't all one sided, even though Russia can't absorb far more than Ukraine, Putin has put himself in a position were it's going to be really difficult to back down, and if he does, it will be his end.

I have been hearing that particular opinion since this thing kicked off. Yet they are still going and even producing more than ever. Despite sanctions they are still selling their oil and even upgrading weapon designs wich takes tech thats all sanctioned. I know everyone thinks I support Putin and Russia...but I really don't. I understand them and I think we made some poor choices setting this all up with the color revolution to install a NATO friendly government. All we have done is provided the perfect environment for Russia to work out the kinks and gain a lot of experience. We just made them stronger...and I don't think thats the smart move with how China is acting. We needed to be driving a wedge between China and Russia not driving them closer.

I’ve heard good arguments that sanctions are tantamount to war.

we just need to stay out of it.

we are bankrupt and the republicans aren’t implementing the Doge cuts so we’re just going deeper in debt.

need to focus here.
"setting this all up with the color revolution to install a NATO friendly government."

As opposed to a massively unpopular corrupt Russian puppet who wanted closer ties with Russia when the people wanted the opposite?

I hope everybody listened to Trump's full remarks on the war

https://www.yahoo.com/news/russia-respon...06497.html

And Putin responds
Quote:The Kremlin on Monday responded to President Trump’s criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin, citing “emotional overload” at this “very important moment.”
“We are really grateful to the Americans and to President Trump personally for their assistance in organizing and launching this negotiation process,” said spokesman Dmitry Peskov when asked about Trump’s remarks, according to Reuters.
“Of course, at the same time, this is a very crucial moment, which is associated, of course, with the emotional overload of everyone absolutely and with emotional reactions.”

The comments come after the American president has lashed out at Putin in recent days, a noticeable shift in tone that many have interpreted as a sign Trump is losing his patience with the Russian leader amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY!” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday night.
Earlier that day, the president said he was “not happy” with his Russian counterpart as he prepared to board Air Force One.
“I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin,” Trump told reporters.

Russia overnight launched a record number of drones into Ukraine, along with nine cruise missiles, according to The Associated Press. No deaths were immediately confirmed.
The attack followed a similar onslaught on Saturday, when the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv came under fire from a barrage of Russian drones and missiles, killing at least 12 people.
Trump has repeatedly vowed to end the conflict, the current phase of which began when Moscow invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
The president’s comments are some of his toughest yet directed at Putin, though Trump has also ratcheted up his criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Likewise, President Zelenskyy is doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does,” Trump said in his remarks Sunday before boarding Air Force One.

Im always amazed at how brief some Tass articles are...

As long as they are commenting through the news,I guess escalation is less of a risk
