Well, the Democrats blocked the private funding, so that put taxpayers on the chopping block. They were complaining that it was "unfair" that companies like Google and Lockheed Martin were donating, but let's be honest, those companies donate to their campaigns too, so.........pot/kettle.

How much was actually donated ? The cost was estimated at $400 million, but I can't find how much of that was actually paid yet.
