Name a book you want made into a movie
#41
Stephen King's From a Buick 8.   That would be amazing if properly done.

Also, Carlos Castaneda's Don Juan Books would make a fantastic and interesting Netflix (or similar) series; in that way we could actually be passengers along with Carlos as he encountered Don Juan's world, and all the complexity apparent in the books.   Whether one believes in the ideals presented in the books, the are a fascinating read.   I mean, really, who, in their impulsive youth hasn't taken peyote buttons out in the desert without a lick of training in being impeccable, hoping to provoke an encounter with an unknown powerful entity/ally... and somehow survived?     No?   Okay, just me then.
"Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.   Be kind.  Always".   -  Darielys Tejera/Spc. Douglas Jay Green/Robin Williams

"Pseudoscience, depending for its “truth” on consensus, is deeply hostile to challenge."   - Rael Jean Isaac

I could name quite a few. Harry Harrison's 'deathworld' would be my choice.
Also; Asimov's 'foundation' series, but i hear they tried that & made a complete hash of it.
In fact, i don't think hollywierd is capable of taking ANY story & remain true to canon, they killed Star Wars, r*ped Tolkien, and just screw up everything they touch trying to make it appealing to 'modern audiences' while pretending to know what a 'modern audience' is, or what it wants.

It will be up to the indie film makers to break the mould.
Someone started making short films on YT from the 2000AD comics, like Dredd & Strontium Dogs, pretty darn good!

I love the Castaneda books. They did teach me a lot of very useful spiritual truths. I think he met a shaman LIKE Don Juan Matus and then created a fictional character to portray his teachings.
They are so chock full of facts and adventures it would have to be at least a trilogy.

My vote for a book (series) that would make an excellent film(s) is Necroscope by Brian Lumley.   ESP, vampires, dimensional travel, horror, sci fi, espionage, action,  Perfekt!

The term necroscope, as defined in the series, describes someone who can communicate with the dead (coined Deadspeak later in the series). Unlike necromancers, who here extract the knowledge they seek by brutal eviscerations of corpses, a necroscope can communicate with them as equals: peacefully and without any physical interference. The abilities of a necroscope are defined as a type of ESP

SPOILERS
Harry Keogh (born Harry Snaith), the Necroscope, is born with the ability to speak to the dead. As he grows up and his power manifests itself, he befriends the dead, known as the Great Majority, and learns from them that death is not the end. He believes that although the body dies, the mind goes on and the dead continue to improve and expand in death what they loved in life. From him, they learn to communicate amongst themselves, and love Harry for it. In turn, the Great Majority offer him their knowledge. While Harry is at school, a deceased math teacher helps him with his developing mathematics talent and an ex-army sergeant teacher imparts self-defense skills.
As the years go by, he has recurring dreams about his mother, dead after an apparent ice-skating accident but in reality murdered by her husband – Harry's stepfather Victor Shukshin. Shukshin is a psychic sensitive, a defector sleeper agent planted in England by the Soviet E-Branch. In his self-appointed mission to avenge his mother's death, Harry is dragged into a web of espionage involving British and Soviet ESP agencies.
This leads to Harry learning to use the Möbius Continuum (from its discoverer August Ferdinand Möbius himself, at his grave in Leipzig, Germany), which allows him to instantaneously transport himself anywhere in the multi-dimensional universe.
From that point on, Keogh, backed by the British E-Branch, works to rid the human world of a vampire menace, a mission that will eventually lead him to a parallel world called Sunside/Starside. This vampire-dominated world is connected to Earth via two portals, one in Romania (the original "source" of vampires on Earth) and a second, recent one in the Soviet-run Pechorsk Project in the Urals. It is on Sunside/Starside that Harry Keogh's final death eventually meets up with him, after he has lost his family, his friends, even his deadspeak and numeracy, but not his humanity.
In the Möbius Continuum, Harry's essence explodes in a burst of golden light, and from that explosion a myriad of golden darts, each a part of Harry, come forth.
Each of those golden darts carry a part of Keogh, and can join with hosts to grant them some of the abilities of the original Necroscope. Later books in the series tell the stories of individuals touched by these darts: Nathan Kiklu, Jake Cutter and Scott St. John. The darts seek to continue their mission in life, and so bond to individuals who will come up against the Necroscope's old foes, the Wamphyri, and menaces of diabolic nature.
Harry's physical remains, infected by the spores of the vampire Faethor Ferenczy, were sent back in time by the Möbius Continuum and ended up in the marshes of Sunside/Starside, making him the source of the vampire plague when his own spores infected the exiled Shaitan who becomes the first Wamphyri Lord.

I always Thought Earth Abides would make a pretty good film.

Huh, looks like they made it into a canceled Prime video series, Too Bad.

I love your idea of Swan Song.  What a memorable, vivid book.

I'd like to nominate Blitzcat.  Simply because there aren't enough good animal stories.

I look forward to reading everyone's ideas!  Another literature suggestion that I believe I read on this site (the Operation Repulse series) was absolutely amazing.  Both my husband and I loved it.

It's actually very good. I wish they would have paced it better for more seasons and to follow the book better but, all in all, I found it well done.

I second Swan Song.

I'd like to see a faithful adaptation of One Second After by William Forstchen.

The Last Centurion from John Ringo would be awesome but it would be hard to work the juxtaposition into a film properly.

Nobody wants to see The Silmarillion on the big screen?  Not sure how they would do it and it might be better off as a TV series.  This is where Rings of Power failed.

I think Peter Jackson was trying to work with the Tolkien Estate on trying to get the rights to do a movie, or maybe an HBO mini series like Chernobyl or Band of Brothers. I honestly think the mini series would be the way to go.
