Trump evoked (I believe) section 10, which has gray area for not needing the governor. But people were surprised he didn't go for the insurrection act.

In either event, this is the first time in many decades a president called in the troops without permission from a governor. Some would argue it's because California wasn't doing enough, but it looks like things died down without them actually going on the front lines. The government even talked about sending  marines, which is a different precedent than just the National Guard.

Honestly, a lot of it was probably because Trump wanted to show Newsom who's got more power. Which is a bad look for the party always talking about federal overreach and state rights. Is it further than anyone else has gone? Not really.

They used flash bang grenades, tear gas, rubber bullets against these people and people were seriously injured. These tactics can be lethal.

The protesters are saying that they will defend themselves against violence.

Is CA/LA being used as an example of Trump's control and power and ego? 

The rule is that the military should not be deployed unless it is a last resort.

Is this the same mayor that helped the fires burn in that area a short time ago from decisions about water supplies, fire department equipment and fire department staff? If so, there opinions should not be trusted at all.

Course she did, I trust her about as much as Trump when it comes to politicizing this. That's the problem, none of these types of events should be politicized in the first place by the forces responsible for calming the waters. And protests are usually political in nature, leaders having a tiff just stokes the flames, and debating what came first, the chicken or the egg won't change anything.
