I'm not an American, but isn't there something in your constitution about not allowing US troops to be deployed within the US?
National guard are not regular army, so i can see that as a loophole, but as a few of you have mentioned, the cops & feds could deal with it, if they really needed to.
I get the idea that this is Trump not liking the governor, and doing everything he can to make life difficult for him.
The fact that citizens, cops, agents and illegals will all get hurt, doesn't faze Trump at all, he really has no empathy.
When are they going to deport Elon?

The Mayor said that LAPD police chief asked for more resources and was given Sheriff's resources, he never asked specifically for the help of the Guard as far as I understood the Mayor.

Mayor can't ask, governor has to typically.
Trump evoked (I believe) section 10, which has gray area for not needing the governor. But people were surprised he didn't go for the insurrection act.
In either event, this is the first time in many decades a president called in the troops without permission from a governor. Some would argue it's because California wasn't doing enough, but it looks like things died down without them actually going on the front lines. The government even talked about sending marines, which is a different precedent than just the National Guard.
Honestly, a lot of it was probably because Trump wanted to show Newsom who's got more power. Which is a bad look for the party always talking about federal overreach and state rights. Is it further than anyone else has gone? Not really.
