Feds to take control of 2000 Cali National Guardsmen for anti ICE riots

Worked out well for my county. We grew by 0.4% primarily due to the CBP dropping them off at the train station all year. Without them we probably would have lost population again..

Hold up, if your country is so welcoming then why aren't the migrants going there to commit crimes?

Regardless of what the governor of the state wants, he's being ordered to use the California Nation Guard the way Trump wants it to be used. I wonder what happens if he balks. The act clearly provides for this, as orders are to be issued "through" the governor, whatever that means...

So Trump wanted blood in the streets. Why else would ICE go to Home Depot? But, now he has the Insurrection Act, and he has the momentum to go ahead and prune the battlefield before he goes after cartels and the Deep State.

Why does everyone on the Left have a problem with the laws of this country being enforced?

Because our hearts bleed with the tears of 11 million undocumented migrants. Plus, It's not laid back and inclusive enough when you screw with the law-abiding ones - that are the furtherest thing from gang members.

So when our sunshine and rainbow unicorn roads of gum drops are marched upon by Nazi Storm Troopers (which is how we see ICE) its like the same reaction when a repressed evangelical sees something really woke in public. Just immediately triggered by the deepest and strongest of irrational emotions.

I'm just glad it's still in a country where I get to pander to rebellion over it, when the administration goes towards authoritarianism.

And you'll noticed how I've artfully sidestepped your "laws of this country" bit, this is also part of being a programmed lefist. Less restraint might say, "I don't care about that law" but then someone usually says I don't care 'bout 'merica..

Because it's now a culture of criminalizing sanctuary. And states, and people who are proud to be part of a local culture of sanctuary, that embraces even the undocumented to stay and contribute. And of course ignore all the sensationalized crap talked about them. Pets and geese and such...

And it feels like it's going to get to a time soon where I am a threat to this country for not agreeing with one law and sharing my opinion on it, and that's both frightening and depressing. It puts irrational wheels in motion..

I don't want to be part of the society that became too forgetful of history to not repeat it. I can't do it, jackboots only work with fishnets and cutoffs.

But as a programmed lefist (except the neoliberal globalist free trade stuff) that's where my thoughts go...

With the President of Mexico making statements about wanting these migrants there legal or not and also making threats about mobilizing to protect Mexican Citizens in the US. Who needs the "Insurrection Act" when a declaration of war might be a better move by Congress.

I still think we should go after the Trotskyists, both in Mexico and the US, to shut this mess down, but too many puppets cloud the fields in this play.

The sanctuary cities and states have always been illegal. To be considered for sanctuary status, a person must apply through the federal government of the USA. Not the states or cities. They have nothing to do with it.

Several of the previous presidential administrations did not enforce those laws.

But now they are slowly being enforced again, some are upset even though the problem is with the lack of enforcement in the past and not that they being inforce now.

Participation trophies are no longer given to illeagl aliens.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

If anyone actually cared, they'd do things the right way, but alas, it's just another culture war issue both sides use for their political gain.

Yes, the country would take a massive hit if all of them magically were gone. Most service sectors would take years to bounce back, and prices would go crazy for those industries. That's the sad truth, a lot of illegals are cheap labor, something both sides exploit.

Just "protecting" their presence does little to nothing. Their country lost them, and they're exploited on their journey here, as well as once they are here. You think someone from Honduras is going to report unsafe working conditions or sexual harassment? Not a chance.

I've already voiced my criticisms for the means in "addressing" this. I find some of them abuse of executive power. But that doesn't steal the complicity of all those that allowed this to happen before now.

Retracting troll mode. Trump's a bad influence for me...

Of course the system needs reforming. Rapid asylum was what I liked. Towards that road. Instill a system of making it so fast nobody cheats anymore. Require they come with a completed verifyable E-background check you set up for them to complete before arrival. Make them have proof of this before they wait in line 13 hours, and get granted a temporary stay until the court date or something.

Devote the resources towards processing the 99% that are worthy (and so many would be) and save the oppressive  border infrastructure and little ICE boys with intimidating automatic rifles.

Growth doesn't usually hurt an economy, even foreigners. They'll take out loans and open businesses, and fuel positive growth. Like they always do.

I don't get the myopic image of "dole-bludgers" as my friend from Perth would say. Like they come here solely to breed and bilk welfare. I thought we moved beyond that white power based propaganda as a society. Guess it's en vouge again.

I am not getting my land port Ellis Island. At least any time before 2028.

I actually mean this now, before it was still a joke. I'll take any American politician on Trump's enemies list at this point.

Spirit vs. letter... of law.  For the most part, past administrations deferred to the states and cities to decide what level of sanctuary they wanted to provide. Even Trump's first Adminstration wasn't like this. He did raids and split up families, even detained children for 2 months, but he pulled back at some point for relection concerns.

Even when Bush had 12.5 million undocumented migrants (around the time of the housing crisis) they weren't yet being scapegoated and sensationalized as THE WORST THING EVER yet.  Everyone was pretty much focused on the subprime ARM bubble popping and possible depression.

It feels like it's because the post covid economic downturn didn't have defaulting loans to blame. You couldn't blame immigrants in 2008. Everyone was focused on Fannie and Freddy.  It was easier to get people to take their brains out of their head and blame Biden and immigrants instead of covid and Russia this time.

But societies are like goldfish. If you change where you feed them, their memory instantly resets to the new imprintation.

It was technically illegal, but it's one of those things so varied by state and city politics it's was allowed to happen.

Obama even deported the shit out of people. It was just through the hearings Trump doesn't even let them get to. It is the difference in approach. He didn't target Los Angeles for providing Sanctuary with extra ICE raids. He went after the ones worth going after and nobody made a deal about it, because it wasn't law abiding cooks at work.  (Translation = They weren't being assholes as a show of power and scare tactics).

And here I thought his administration liked to defer to the state on these types contentious issues because its better... guess it was only that once.

ETA:

Moral archetypal based opposition, Trump's personality type.

Trump always does exactly what a Satan would do. Beyond just primarily serving his own interests.
He takes a head for the eye.
He ups the game.
He sends the Vietnamese to Libya.
Sends the Libyan to Southern India.
Finds a way to be a sadist.
The opposite of what compassion would do.
He thrives as a combative adversary.
Enjoys engaging the people he triggers.
Enjoys pointed and ironic retribution.

And Satan is the worst essence to lead a hopeful society.

As was suggested by someone on some lost ATS thread I op'd,  I want to take this cultural leviathan back out to sea and weight it to the bottom.

This too shall pass... This irrational anger and bitterness... but for now it's one of those "Anyone in 2025?" things.
