Did ATS break the Serpo story ?
#1
It was project Serpo which rejuvenated my interest in UFOs. However I came to it four years too late in 2010. I wish I could have been part of those mailing lists in 2006.

Was it all dreamed up by the mirage man himself- the private citizen? Or did it have some utility as part of larger overarching information warfare campaign?

I still revisit it from time to time as I find the whole episode so picturesque and charming.

I was watching then as a lurker, being too paranoid to sign up at the time.
I found it quite disturbing, and while I recall it was eventually debunked, I don't know if I ever heard the final resolution. I dug deep, though, and still may have print outs kicking around.

Bill Ryan was taken in by it.

I also read that a former AFOSI agent could have invented the whole thing?

It'd be great if it was true.

I prefer ths bright and optimistic side of Ufology. I was enchanted by Adamski and other 1950s contactees. So Project Serpo naturally piqued my interest.

I can't be doing with reptilians and human body parts floating in large vats of water. Life is already depressing enough.

I think so but I havet read it. I mainly read through the chronological account of the exchange. The last member of the expedition reportedly died in Florida in 2002 except for the person who opted to remain on Serpo whose fate remains unknown.

I think ATS played a major role in spreading the Serpo story.

But it did not originate it.

The site did however, contribute to the tale being turned into an internet phenomenon.

It was originated on mailing lists. Oh to have been a part of this in 2006. The excitement!

Apparently, the tale originated from private circulated emails to a researcher named Victor Martinez before landing at ATS.

Another one i seem to recall was when the likes of "Hidden Hand" decided to post, the self-proclaimed Illuminatist and family member.

That was top-class.

Also, the "All roads lead to Rome" thread was another stoater worth of a mention.

"All Roads Lead to Rome"... is among the some exemplary ATS threads that deserves a special revival.
(Once it is properly restored.)

It could have been the framework for a great book, or even a fantastic documentary production...

It is part of the true "content history" for the legacy of the community which thrived at ATS...

But we are here now... and we will pick up the pieces...
