I remember the association.

Fortunately, or maybe deliberately... ATS was associated with a "rumor."

It's a weakness of characterization that portrays someone relaying a rumor heard, as the "source" of the rumor.
A bad information consumer habit, reinforced by streams of talking head words... and "he" had become a "talking head" in the media... 

But hell... It was still noteworthy to be mentioned as a destination.

I seem to remember there being some board drama about him being a member during his arrest.

I think he is of a personality to have freely shared the web communities he found interesting and topical... at the time ATS had "become"...  

The media rushed to "use it"... found it unpalatable,and stepped off our porch.

For a while... people started to filter in... usually by media-fueled topical interests.
Such passions, depending largely on the latest media attention stratagem, can be fleeting...

However... many more stayed... and the "community" itself was affirmed...

The dissolution of ATS was not a deathblow, just the quick breath before the next plunge.

ATS could not come back... the reasons could fill a book.

But the community that relied on it... remained...

On a personal note....

ATS will always have my heart... it was the first place I dared utter publicly...
you can imagine why...

I warhead the episode he did with project camelot,  I lived for a while near where he grew up and went to school ,Everyone I spoke with  that knew him all said he was a quiet nice guy a hard worker with a girlfriend but was a bookworm and a geek , nobody said anything bad about Gary ,he was a straight shooter and would not lie .

I know for a fact what he was saying was true , it is so easy to  wander into areas and find stuff that is supposed to be private , Just by clicking a link nome one out up on a forum
