POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

  * A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF WAVES. THE TIME BETWEEN WAVE CRESTS
CAN VARY FROM 5 MINUTES TO AN HOUR. THE HAZARD MAY PERSIST
FOR MANY HOURS OR LONGER AFTER THE INITIAL WAVE.

  * IMPACTS CAN VARY SIGNIFICANTLY FROM ONE SECTION OF COAST TO
THE NEXT DUE TO LOCAL BATHYMETRY AND THE SHAPE AND ELEVATION
    OF THE SHORELINE.

  * IMPACTS CAN ALSO VARY DEPENDING UPON THE STATE OF THE TIDE AT
THE TIME OF THE MAXIMUM TSUNAMI WAVES.

  * PERSONS CAUGHT IN THE WATER OF A TSUNAMI MAY DROWN... BE
CRUSHED BY DEBRIS IN THE WATER... OR BE SWEPT OUT TO SEA.

NEXT UPDATE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

No one has been reported injured (yet - fingers crossed!)

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - A Tsunami Advisory was in effect for Puerto Rico and nearby islands after a powerful earthquake struck between Honduras and the Cayman Islands on Saturday evening in the Caribbean Sea.

The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 7.6, prompted authorities to warn of potential sea-level fluctuations and strong ocean currents that could pose a hazard to boaters and beachgoers.

No damage was reported in the immediate aftermath of the major quake which was centered more than 100 miles southwest of George Town in the Cayman Islands, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

I have two buddies in Grand Cayman who didn't feel it, however, they are probably trashed.   I didn't feel it either, and I'm not trashed at all.   7.6, even six miles down and  150 miles away should be nothing to fool with.   The sea bed all around us except to the northeast is flat and featureless, so the probability of a slip, slide or movement of earth is very small.   So far so good here.   thank you all for watching out for us.  Thumbup Thumbup

I contacted a friend on Grand Cayman and she didn’t feel anything.

She said that people were being told to move inland and to higher ground, but nothing happened so far.

There was a wee swarm of aftershocks.  Latest Earthquakes;  I didn't feel any of these either.   The primary temblor was downgraded to 6.8, after comparing all data from the various seismic locations.

The 1989 "world series earthquake", the Loma Prieta Earthquake that was so devastating was a 6.9.    Although it was much closer to the surface, the epicenter was about 75 miles from most of the damage and loss of life.

Thanks for the update!  Thumbup

I pray we can chalk it up to 'settling.'
