I have spent some time in Japan and the Philippines; between the Typhoons and earth quakes I kept looking for a place I wanted to go and retire in. Both countries lay on a conglomeration/conjunction of major earthquake faults and at times good ole mother nature kills off several 100 if not several thousand of the local inhabitants.

All told many estimates are a little over 250,000 perished in the 2004 Tsunami ... Not nice...
