I think you should just accept your error with grace.   No harm to it.   Everybody makes mistakes.  You could argue circles around yourself, but you see, I've been there, lived among Mormons and I know who they are.  You aren't the first to take their writings, or cherrypick the Book of Mormon or even the writings of Jedediah Smith and twist them into something that isn't currently believed.   Consider how our understanding of the very context of "Christian" has changed over the centuries.

Only Mormons consider works such as the Book of Mormon, the Pearl of Great Price, and Doctrines an Covenants to be scripture. Similarly, only Mormons give regard to what Joseph Smith propounded.
