Total porn ban proposed by Michigan lawmakers
#1
I'm not big into porn, internet or not, so I don't really care if they ban online porn. I can easily live without it. However, this bill is right out of the communist playbook (think China or North Korea).

You will not only be prevented from accessing it, you won't be allowed to make it yourself, not even write pornographic stories or create a soundtrack that sounds sexual (no heavy breathing or moaning). No one will be able to get trans material or make it themselves, and apparently, you won't be able to talk about it either. Do you use a VPN? Then you will be arrested for that alone, regardless of what you were doing online.

To think, some Michigan Republican has been working on this for a long time now, and with all the overreach, it has gone into communist territory now.

Quote:House Bill 4938, called the "Anticorruption of Public Morals Act," would prohibit the distribution of "real, animated, digitally generated, written, or auditory" depictions of sexual acts. The bill breaks down the types of acts covered, including intercourse and masturbation.

The bill also includes a section that takes aim at transgender individuals by prohibiting material "that includes a disconnection between biology and gender by an individual of 1 biological sex imitating, depicting, or representing himself or herself to be of the other biological sex."

The bill would require internet service providers in Michigan to use filters to prevent people from seeing the prohibited material.

If the bill were to become law, violators could be looking at prison time or hefty fines. Distributing the prohibited material or making it available online would carry a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and/or a $100,000 fine. If more than 100 pieces of prohibited material are involved, that penalty jumps to 25 years in prison and/or a fine up to $125,000.

Additionally, an internet service provider or commercial entity could face fines for knowingly allowing people to access sexually explicit material online.

The bill's sponsors are also pushing for violators of the Anticorruption of Public Morals Act to register as sex offenders.

Quote:WTF?! An increasing number of states and even countries are introducing age-verification systems to prevent minors from accessing adult websites. For adults unwilling to hand over personal details such as facial scans, VPNs have offered a workaround. But six Michigan Republican representatives have introduced a bill that would completely ban not only porn for everyone in the state but also VPNs. It also proposes placing porn distributors on the sex offenders registry and banning depictions of transgender people.

Rep. Josh Schriver of Oxford, the lead sponsor of House Bill 4938, named the Anti-corruption of Public Morals Act, wrote that its "measures defend children, safeguard our communities, and put families first."

Isn't Michigan more Sharia than Christian now?

As for banning porn?

No.

Free speech.

1st Amendment.

Yeah, I hope that it can't pass, based on free speech alone. With the liberals in control of politics in Michigan, I don't think it will go anywhere.

Dearborn (near Detroit) and Hamtramck (inside of Detroit) are mostly Muslim, but as for sharia, maybe those two towns have some sharia laws as their local ordinances. The two other big cities, Grand Rapids and the state capital Lansing, have the usual urban mix. Otherwise, most of the state is rural and Christian.

It would be interesting to see what happens.

This is obviously not a violation of the 1st amendment, which says "Congress shall make no law..."

You can bet dollars to doughnuts that if the 2nd amendment said "shall not be infringed by Congress", the left would be arguing that states could make total gun bans.

Why is this any different?

Diversity in law between states is necessary for a free republic that is a crucible of democracy.

Dearborn is lost…

Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud to a resident: "You do not belong in this city, Islamophobe! Get out!"

The resident opposed naming a street, in Dearborn, after pro-jihad Osama Siblani

Porn is vile but then so are the humans that make or watch it.

I'd ban it in a heartbeat.

It is still early to know exactly how this age verification system is going to work in Australia. Generally it is looking like a way for the government to more easily track what everyone does online and will be used against you.

But, is it a first amendment right type of thing that you would fight for someone’s right to choose?

You can’t have both.

Canadian here, so we have similar protections .

If it’s hot, wet and sticky and it’s not yours, don’t touch it!

I would ban it and question why anyone would choose to watch or produce it. We live in an open air asylum, look around you at human behaviour.

As 2/3 of all parented material after the invention of the printing press is porn. Even Bibles have been paid for by people purchasing porn making printing cheeper.

The Internet is pretty much the same ratio. Porn, in a big part, pays for the infrastructure for everything else.

You can't legislate morality. It has been tried too many times to count. See prohibition as a big example. It just caused the rise of organized crime.

The very devices and Internet you are posting on has been paid for by people wanting porn. Money is money.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?
