Donald Trump found guilty on all counts in ‘hush money’ trial
#1
Quote:Donald Trump has been found guilty of conspiring to buy the silence of a porn actor days before the 2016 election and covering his tracks in business records, becoming the first former US president to be convicted of a crime as he seeks a second term in office.

The unanimous verdict in the Manhattan “hush money” case came at just after 5pm local time on Thursday, after almost two days of deliberation by the seven men and five women of the jury.

A jury of 12 everyday New Yorkers was presented with overwhelming evidence — including invoices, cheques, bank statements, audio recordings, phone logs, text messages and direct testimony from 22 witnesses.” The evidence proved Trump “went to illegal lengths to lie repeatedly in order to protect himself and his campaign”, he added.

The 34 counts on which Trump was convicted carry a maximum prison sentence of four years, but as a first-time offender, he is unlikely to be incarcerated. Bragg declined to say whether he would seek a prison sentence.

In a historic case Donald Trump became the first former US President to be convicted of a crime. The sentencing is scheduled for July 11. A panel of 12 jurors unanimously found Trump guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records. Falsifying records shows intention and knowledge of the situation and the jurors found him guilty of falsification of business records to cover up another crime and this is clearly described as illegal payment contributions (which were not recorded) to further his campaign.

No right vs left please and political tribalism. This isn't ATS.

You request is impossible.

Anything for the conviction will be judged to be left and anything against will be judged to be right.

This cannot be discussed as you want.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?

It shouldn't be this way. A conviction is a conviction and someone, anyone, no matter who they are, even if they have been in office for years they should get a fair trial and if evidence presented and they are guilty then they should be convicted of the crimes they were charged with.

You are assuming the coviction was proper and legal. We will not know that until the appeal is over.

I have nothing to say about the trial here, but:

Who is "he"?

” The evidence proved Trump “went to illegal lengths to lie repeatedly in order to protect himself and his campaign”, he added.

Please include a link to your source.

I also agree with the above poster, this cannot be discussed in "generalities" and "partisan free".

We already know that from the "other site"

Just my opinion.

Shouldn't it suffice that anyone does care?

While it may be difficult to accept, we are all observers of a drama which is being produced and performed.

Each 'opinion' swerves between theory and practice, rarely defining to which it refers.  It is unfortunate that peoples' sources are part of the performance.

I have to agree with one thing that President Trump indicated, "This is about something more important than "him."

This case is just a shadow of what is to come...

Who "gets away with what" is a question that begs the question "Why?"  The answer, in normal context, is hard enough... in the political context it loses any meaning...and any semblance of honor.

Apparently not.

From The Guardian
Quote:The conviction will not affect Trump’s legal ability to run for president. The constitution does not bar felons from running for office. Whether he could serve as president from prison is untested. He would not be able to pardon himself from any conviction, since it is a state crime.

I've read elsewhere that only the Governor of NY could pardon him... but I don't have the legal details for you.
