A theological note ...

Technically a Christian is supposed to say, and believe, that love is stronger than hate because Christ died for love of us and rose on the third day conquering the hate and evil of Satan, and purchasing eternal life for us.   

But I didn't want to bring in theology so that's why I left it out in the opening post.

That is a good point and as you mentioned in another thread, it's whether you take the long view or not. Consider this: as God is sovereign, any hate in the world exists directly or indirectly by his will, as He is all-powerful. The usual theological reasoning is that it exists at all so as to guide us to His grace. Thus, in the here-and-now, God can allow hate to be as weak or as powerful as necessary, to achieve His ineffable will. So the way that plays out, it seems, is that love does not trump hate in every instance. The battle is not the war, which as you point out, is already and always has been won.

I can't see these two emotions as part of a grand continuous spectrum.  They are not duality emotions, they belong to a pantheon of critical emotions, each with their own spectrum of use and cross use. Add to that jealousy, sadness, happiness, and all that which contributes to motivation.  

It all bleeds together and probably washes out around the sacred zero sum principle of balance by polar annihilation...

It got me thinking...

The question itself raises problems which I am still trying to get.

Love, hate, these things are both concepts and feelings; both forces of human nature, and sentiments which are each a part of that nature.

Stronger, meaning more effective towards an intent could be one consideration.
Stronger, as in more focused and driving as a motive of action, another.

These (love and hate) are also, unless you disagree, not 'opposites' per se.

You can't really think you hate something you don't know about... or can you?
You may hate it because you want to, you choose to, but hate is a function of chosen perspective...
well earned or otherwise.

You can't really love what you don't think you know either...
if we refer to a longing of the heart to manifest...

In both cases, love or hate, you must have some manner of direction and focus or object.

But all they really are in the behavioral sense are motives or motifs to choose from.
I think what gives them strength are the attribution given them be those acting under the feeling they experience.

As you can tell... I'm all over the proverbial map...

But as for the basis of which is stronger... perhaps that's a personal, situational, and relative thing.

When speaking on all that is created, it seems it takes or took love, creativity, imagination and intelligence to create things and then put a sentient conscious that implements nurturing into some of the created that are meant to exist for the long run and self sustain themselves.

If hatred is part of the source of creating it is possible that then said creation(s) would be destined for failure.  Destined because there is nothing to provide the inertia required to assist said CREATOR Creations that are sentient to survive.  They would just consume everything around them until nothing is left and they starve...

A inhabited planet, star system, galaxy, galaxy cluster (blackhole)   and even further a universe that is only ran on hate would devour everything within it and then itself once all resources required to sustain it were depleted due to selfishness. 

The apex predators would rise thru all the turmoil.  But once there is nothing else to hate on or feed on ignorantly it seals it's own fate.  It's like how the nephilim were said to consume all around them and then even humans, but once they decimated their region of food/energy their ignorance eventually turned them on themselves. 

Now if they understood that loving themselves and their surroundings more would allow more of their kind to progress they would of came to a conclusion that their hateful behavior to their environment and it's inhabitants would eventually destroy them after they fed off of one another.  Equaling failure.

Failure, in my opinion would equal to a waste of energy it takes to create things if said energy is not meant to develop or progress and is only meant to cast hatred out as far as the casters perception allowed it and destroy.

It seems hatred is more of an impatient, easy-weak option/approach to EXISTENCE, used to inflict harm and devastation upon others in this imperfect material world-realm to gain power or influence over others during the short run or life doing the temporary human experience, but cutting the Eternal Spirit/Soul short as it's deeds during life as a temporary human are reflected upon as hateful most of the time.

So I guess I feel love is stronger in my opinion.

i am wondering if what you're describing in this bit is uncontrolled, unbounded hate. the extreme epitome. devouring without end, resulting in absolute destruction, even of itself.

and i wonder if one couldn't view love the same way. embrace love as the only and every at all moments to the exclusion of any worldly differentiation, and you end up on a mountaintop somewhere doing nothing. or buried in a tomb occasionally ringing a bell for years on end. perhaps you starve away, because indeed nothing is more worthwhile than learning to love the starvation. don't walk on or work the soil, because you love every insect too much to tread on it. if everyone and everything did such, the end result would be indistinguishable from the devouring you describe, only written with stasis rather than entropy.

second, for some reason i'm thinking of gain-of-function research. the analogy is the love is the life in the petri dish which contains and bounds it. now, the researcher doesn't know really at all how what's going on inside works, they are measuring results only. they cull, select, bound, and limit the otherwise exponential growth. that's kind of how hate works? it eats around the edges, creates an environment for love to push against. and in selective application, becomes tastier and more useful meals for the hatred that feeds upon it... i dunno it's late and this a sort of weird though. i guess it works into the idea of loosh and stuff.
