I think armed forces still have reason to exist, especially in humanitarian aid, logistics and even deterrence/policing, but I can't pretend that warfare is honorable.
Warfare is a failure of humans being humane, an archaic paradigm that doesn't even remotely achieve all that the idealogues suggest it does.

It bloody well is their job to question. It's part of military law to refuse unlawful orders because the adherence of soldiers to moral and ethical standards is necessary for them to serve justly and not commit (war) crimes.
