But if the USA has a right to exist as a sovereign country that broke away from a superpower, why shouldn’t Ukraine have the same rights of existence? And Ukraines separation from the former USSR was on a much more peaceful orderly and legal basis than the USA’s separation.

The point of military forces is to maintain national sovereignity. A merge of militaries dilutes their primary purpose and not all citizens will agree to that, because it will draw countries into disputes that have nothing to do with them.
