Since I am reading a book about the greys, I paraphrase from it when it says that they are genetically perfected whether by evolution or manufacturing to be the consummate nocturnal hunters.  Their eyes are large, can see in the dark, and infrared and ultraviolet.  Their percentage of twitch vs slow muscles enables very fast almost superhuman bursts of speed.  They are not likened to owls for nothing. Like birds, they are also physically light and somewhat weak.

LAM sounds like a specific intelligence of a singular Grey, to me.  
They were those bodies as a suit, their native forms are noncorporeal, I think.
