The outcome of this confrontation does not depend on the US any more – except for people in the US, of course, and other countries that cannot disengage fast enough from a former ally that has made itself the common enemy of all (the epithet ‘Great Satan’ is now genuinely apt). The only problem the rest of the world now faces is the US so-called blockade, which is about as sturdy as cheesecloth: 26 ships have passed it since it was imposed.

It means that without US participation and guarantees, the agreement is worthless, and the Iranians, recognising this, withdrew from it. It means that Iran’s nuclear ambitions are no longer restricted by the terms of the agreement. It means they will now start a nuclear weapons programme, something they never previously had.

Can you blame them? They have seen how trustworthy the US and its Western allies are; they have seen how these self-appointed global policemen dare not touch China or North Korea or India or Pakistan, which are nuclear-armed, but like to knock non-nuclear-armed states about like ninepins. What lesson do you think that teaches not just Iranians, but the whole world?

Trump’s invalidation of the JCPOA also means that a plethora of nuclear-armed states will now arise, and there won’t be a damned thing the US can do about it.

You seem to have misunderstood my posts.

I suggested that there are peaceful uses for 60%, and that they, most likely, have made peaceful use of it.

And they achieved 60% enrichment 5 years ago but all the monitoring agencies have said that they have stopped at 60% for the 5 years. It doesn't seem like there has been any effort to produce atomic weapons.

That is the best information that we really have at the moment. It doesn't mean that they haven't enriched further, it doesn't mean the have.

Definitely, it doesn't warrant a war in which people will die.

Someone with a PhD in Atomic Physics would do the math that, in cooperation with engineers, produces the design of the alarms, lights, dials and controls that an atomic plant operator monitors and operates.

An atomic plant operator role does not require a PhD and it would be unusual that an atomic plant operator had a degree and remain in that role (You could ask your favorite LLM or search engine for verification of that fact).
