WASHINGTON, April 22 (Reuters) - Navy Secretary John Phelan has been fired, ​a source familiar with the matter said on Wednesday, ‌in another wartime shakeup at the Pentagon coming just weeks after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ousted the Army's top general.

The Pentagon said in a statement that ​Phelan was "departing the administration, effective immediately," without providing further details. ​Reuters was the first to report Phelan was fired.

Fear always sells. Its little more than a distraction for the people that only read headlines. 

Do you remember the constant fear mongering about food shortages during covid. It was so blatantly false I could only think part of that was trying to get people to horde food, in order to cause food shortages.

I would hope Trump would be in the loop if there was real signs of shortages that would affect Americans beyond the price hikes we are seeing now.

No. Trump. What a guy.  Is simply securing our continents resources. To insure we have energy for centuries. Instead of letting China, Russia etc control it all. They were almost successful at cutting off the energy supply to the USA.

The end of oil production will not be an instantaneous cut-off. It will deplete gradually as reserves become harder and harder to access.

Despite fracking and newer technologies for extracting the last drops from fields, US oil production peaked in 2010-2011 and has been reducing, initially gradually, since that peak.

US oil use, however, has continued to rise from about 17.81 barrels per day in 2020 to 21 million barrels per day. While the sharp downturn in consumption from 2019 to 2020 almost aligns with the pandemic, it did precede mitigation efforts, and so the change must have been for other reasons than pandemic response.

US oil production then took a sharp and massive downturn in 2022, by about 300 million barrels to a low point in 2023. Since then, recovery has risen, but only by about 70 million barrels. If anyone was 'preserving' your resources, it hasn't been Trump.

While the estimate is that the US has sufficient reserves of oil to last for about 227 years, the recent downturn in production suggests that that the number does not tell the whole story, and the recent acquisitions of low-grade oil stocks suggests that there are issues.

One, we have more fuel than a 6 week supply.

Two, we were an agricultural powerhouse long before fertilizer from the ME.

Three, remember toilet paper shortages and the sheep that panicked?

I think some Generals and Admirals are having a time listening to Hegseth, or respecting Hegseth's command.  "His way or the highway" isn't settling well. 

Looking up the rift, it appears partially the result of Phelan bypassing Hegseth and talking directly to Trump. So there's indication some top brass lacks respect for Hegseth. But it is stated (unofficially) as "administrative mismanagement." E.g. failing in building up or maintaining the readiness of the fleet.
