Looks like the most probable outcome now is that everyone loses. That's often the case in war, which is why we should avoid it, and specifically the "preemptive" ones.

If he was looking for an off ramp, he could have called a cease fire weeks ago.

I believe the bombardment was still going on as of a few hours ago.
