Yep.   And they were close to having weapons that could actually accomplish their 'wipe Israel off the map' and 'destroy America'.   They even said so.   They said they had enough nuclear material to make 11 bombs.  

No evidence for any nuclear threat has been provided. 

Provided to who?  No one has legal jurisdiction over America to determine when she can defend herself or not.

International law is distinct from US law.

Sure.   But the UN has no legal jurisdiction over deciding when America can defend itself and when it can't.

Ok but that argument assumes certainty where none exists.

And intelligence on Iran's nuclear timeline has been wrong for decades.

Even the International Atomic Energy Agency has said enrichment isn't the same as having a weapon.

Plenty of countries have the material but no bombs.

Preemptive war based on "they might someday" is the same logic that led to the Iraq War and its imaginary WMD Flyers.

And Iran's leadership threatens enemies rhetorically, but the deterrence has worked between nuclear rivals for 80 years now.

Starting a war with a country of 90 million people because of worst-case speculation isn't ripping off a band-aid.

It's lighting a match next to a gas leak and hoping it improves the smell.
