That was fun!!   Lol
And now we have the Trump admin' dropping sanctions against Russia...

Temporary licence allows Indian refiners to purchase Russian crude already at sea as tensions in the Middle East disrupt global energy markets

India has been 'allowwed' a temporary reprieve in securing energy supplies after the United States granted a 30-day waiver allowing Indian refiners to purchase Russian crude oil that is already in transit.
The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued a licence authorising the delivery and sale of crude oil and petroleum products of Russian origin loaded on vessels as of 5 March 2026 to India. The authorisation will remain valid until the end of 3 April 2026.
The move comes as Washington seeks to stabilise global energy markets at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, where disruptions to major oil facilities and the closure of a key shipping route have pushed up crude prices.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described the waiver as a short-term measure aimed at ensuring the smooth flow of oil into global markets while limiting financial gains for Moscow.

So because Trump didn't think or plan for the consequences of his attacks on Iran, he's know putting money into the pocket of the Kremlin, and with the cost of oil and gas rising around the world, it will allow Russia to make an even bigger profit.

IF it's actually happening ... then no.
But like I said, I am not going to automatically believe the accusations or the story.
I was in the Army.   Different time period as you pointed out.
But still .... it doesn't work that way in the military.
If anyone was doing this they should be disciplined.
Depending on severity ... kicked out.
This type of behavior isn't sanctioned and is not encouraged.
If it happened, then someone is 'going rogue' with it and being stupid.

Even after Russia gave intel to Iran about where our assets are in the Middle East
and where to send their bombs to get us.   (reported on TV news this morning).
Trump gets played by Russia every time.

I've read several articles now that both China and Russia are quietly trying to help Iran.  Trump seems to have a total blindspot when it comes it Putin!

China gets massive amounts of sanctioned oil from Iran (and Venezuela).   Trump has attacked both countries and changed the game.  This significantly weakens China.   While everyone is looking at Iran being religious nutjobs hellbent on terrorism (which is true), they miss that this move weakens China, who is actively  making massive inroads in South America which threatens the USA.   It was a major chess move on Trumps part.  Totally missed by most people.   But then he bows to Russia and lets them walk all over him and the free world.    It's so odd.

The source of the story is what should tested not those who've posted the article.
It may only just be a few right-wing fundamentalists making the claims but it doesn't make the story incorrect, and should these people really be preaching about end times to their subordinates?

It's bad enough the Iranians act like that, we don't need that kind of religious cult here in western militaries.

I honestly don't see the chess move.
People are still buying Chinese made goods and there hasn't been enough investment yet to match or undercut China's massive control of the worlds manufacturing. All this disruption of middle eastern oil will do is push up the prices for the consumer.
Then there's also the rising costs of helium used in MRI's, quantum computing, semiconductor manufacturing, also the manufacture sulphuric acid, and so many other things. All duratives of the oil industry and mostly supplied by middle eastern countries.

No I didn't. I've said anything about a Guardian article.

I took issue with the MRFF article.

Venezuela is under 5% of Chinas oil imports, Iran under 15%.

It’s definitely a hit to them, but most nations could weather mitigating less than a 20% blow. Basically you get more contracts elsewhere, and maybe you’re down 10% now.

It would be a bet that we could weather it better, but still feel pain.

This also ignores what is going to happen to the fertilizer market with 30% of the worlds urea reliant from that region.

I wouldn’t trust this grand plan since I know Bessent cut his teeth being a pupil of Soros.

Also, this all bets that other countries don’t want to do oil deals with China. That’s a bet that countries hate them so much they’ll refuse money. Maybe a few years ago that bet would pay off, but some countries are upset with the tariffs, so time will tell.
