The high-G force of ejection can cause spinal compression or other injuries.

But many pilots recover and return to active flight status. 

I imagine it's not something they would wish to see end their careers if they can help it. 

Just depends on physical and psychological evaluations.

But given what it costs to train a pilot.

You can see why they would want them back in the pilot seat.

British invention, but not always a totally safe outcome for the pilot. Sometimes the pressure impacts/compresses the spine and if so, they can't fly again..... but at least you are alive!

I just looked it up. Pilots experience 18 Gs when they eject, but only for a second. For the average 200 lb man, that means you suddenly weigh 3600 lbs and your body/spine are subject to incredible force. About the same as having a small car dropped on you. I can only imagine that means compression fractures in the spine, pulled/torn muscles...at the very least you're going to be sore as hell for a few days.

I understood one has been appointed as 'interim' leader. Don't ask me his name, I can't pronounce it let alone write it!
