Keeping in mind who these people are...
Of course not. But we weren't making peace before either.
These folks are still pissed off about the Crusades, and that was a long minute ago.

DB the Crusades ended 800 years ago.
It seems to me that the current hostility between nations stems from more modern geopolitics.
Like the 1953 coup, and the subsequent revolution in 1979.
Again, you can't make peace with people whom you bomb.
It just does not take.
And all it serves to achieve is to breed the next generation of terrorists.

T'is why I brought up the 6-Day war of 1967 when Arab nations attacked Israel.

A bit before my time, but is this the same war where Israel launched a surprise air attack?
Did they not take out the better part of the Egyptian air force on the ground?
Preemptive or otherwise, it seems to me Israel fired first...
Arguably down to the troop buildup in Sinai or the closure of the Straits of Tiran.
But still, first.

Well i can't remember it.
Not being born until 75.
So obviously I'm just going by the information i can glean from history and "da tinternet."
But from a historical military perspective, Israel fired first, did they not?
Aka "Operation Focus."
Aka coordinated airstrikes against the Egyptian airfields?
Quote:Smithsonian Libraries and Archives
SummaryOn one day in June, the balance of air power in the Middle East was turned upside down by perhaps the most ruthlessly effective air superiority campaign in history - Operation Moked, or Focus. In 1967, the Israeli Air Force was outnumbered more than two to one by the jets of hostile Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Iraq. Operation Focus was Israel's ingenious strike plan to overturn the balance. At 0745hrs on June 6, Israeli jets hit Egypt's airfields simultaneously, first bombing runways and then strafing aircraft. Another 20 follow-up missions were already in the air, initially scheduled to hit every five minutes. This new history of Operation Focus explains how the concept for Focus was devised and meticulously planned, the astonishing rate of serviceability and turnaround speed it required from ground crews, and how the relentless tempo of strikes shattered one air force after another. It is the story of how Israel's victory in the Six-Day War began with a single, shocking day.

Nothing happens in a bubble. Look at what lead up to it. The attacks, the naval blockades. I guess Israel could have just surrendered and all died, but just 2 decades after Hitler tried it, I guess they were still a bit sensitive about being genocided again.

Nothing happens in a vacuum, either.
And obviously, the lead-up matters.
Which again would appear to be the troop buildup in Sinai and the Straits being closed.
But that doesn't erase that Israel fired the first shot with a major military airstrike.
It's an argument for the pre-emption...
As to being a bit sensitive.
That's the same to similar reason Iran won't make any sort of peace deal with the US right now.
At least not without the sort of major concessions Trump can afford to give...
It's a hell of a predicament.
