Israel assesses that Hamas may not be able to find and return all the remaining dead hostages in Gaza, according to three Israeli sources, a fact that may complicate efforts to finalize a deal to end the war.

Sources say the Israeli government is aware that Hamas may not know the location of, or is unable to retrieve, the remains of some of the 28 remaining deceased hostages. The latest intelligence is believed to put the number in single figures; some sources had earlier suggested it may have been higher.

One of the sources said the assessments are based on Israeli intelligence reports, as well as messaging from Hamas and mediators in recurring rounds of negotiations. The reason for the difference in the two assessments was not clear.

Before word came of those additional handovers, the Israeli government was weighing measures to penalize Hamas for not turning over more bodies, according to two diplomats briefed by Israeli officials and three Israeli officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive topics.

Those steps could include limiting the number of trucks carrying supplies into Gaza and suspending the import of fuel and cooking gas, the two diplomats said. Other officials said Israel was also considering keeping the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt closed for the same reason.

Israel Katz, the Israeli defense minister, accused Hamas of failing “to uphold its commitments” but stopped short of threatening any immediate military action, suggesting the cease-fire may hold.

“The urgent task we are all committed to now is ensuring the return of all the bodies of the hostages home,” the minister said on social media. “Any deliberate delay or refusal will be considered a blatant violation of the agreement and will be met accordingly.”

Personally I just don’t believe it will be peace. It will just be a cessation of armed hostilities for a short time. It won’t last. 

Hamas may be dead in the water, but someone else will slide in and take over the fight.
I’m not being negative here, I am just not convinced that it is possible to have peace there. The hatred is far too ingrained, it’s generational and religiously rooted.

Yes, obvious to the rest of the world is the fact that the US State Department apparently decided many years ago that a 2-state solution was a non-starter. Non-viable. Too much hatred, too many irreconcilable differences. They may even be absolutely correct. And they had to pick a side, so they chose the one that was most compatible with American culture and economics. Duh. Now, the options from there: an out-and-out deadly genocide, kill them all. No. But, they have to GTFO, as it was decided there is no other option. A remnant may remain, if they abandon their incompatible culture and submit to the rule of law of the chosen State. Thus, a policy of misery: encourage them to leave. Where they fight back, they are contained, or they die. This is realpolitik. Yes, it is nasty. But that is the truth.

Here is what is so stupid: rather than being honest, they pretend. They spin. They even lie, when necessary. It's deceptive. Rather than saying "this is how the world works, get over it", or even "we have religious beliefs that inspire us", they do a disservice to honesty and God by pretending. It's dishonourable. It disgraces our politicians, our troops, our country. This from countries that fly the Star of David and claim to be "One Nation, Under God". Truth, justice, and the American Way, indeed.

And we have the blow-back. The complacent, they will simply believe the spin on the surface. "It's a fight of good versus evil, and we're good". Sure. America operates on necessary illusions. We aren't always that good, but whatever. We try. But the midwits: they go to college, actually maybe learn a little history, talk with their sophomoric friends, and see through a little of the spin. "Oh no! America is lying!" Being young, they never take it further than that. They then think, why, that's bad!. And never think that the situation may be more subtle than that, the world more complex, and suddenly everything America does is suspect in their eyes, everyone who hates America is the downtrodden good-guy, and oh no they've got to barricade libraries and wave Palestinian flags! Silly rabbits.

The blame for that reaction rests squarely on the American establishment. They created the leftist problem, when they decided that Americans were too much dumbed down babies to be able to accept the truth of the complexities of the world, and they'd rather avoid the hard public discussion, even if it created a radicalized domestic enemy of their own college-age kids. And the cynical: hey, maybe we can use that division to play political games!

Just be honest America. The empire wears no clothes, the rest of the world can see it, and the time has come to fess up. Really, no one will think any worse of you than they already do, and in fact many will nod and be glad that the government is finally treating its citizens like grown-ups, even if they would like the world to not be as difficult and cruel as it obviously is.
