...

Very nice... and I would love to spread joy and optimism, just like the media will.

But the "deal" reached could have been reached months ago - this could all be theater for the political show.

Not that anyone could be so monstrous as to actually use a manufactured circumstance to justify the "deal."

That's just silly.

Let's see the litany of losers, which will come from this deal.  It always happens you see...

... and it's usually "us."

Looks like the final vote was cast when Sen Cornyn finally got back to DC after flight delays.
Final vote is 60-40

Now the whole thing goes back to the House to be voted on, and hopefully off to Trump to be signed off on. So maybe by Thursday the government will be officially open.

They added a poison pill disallowing Trump from downsizing the executive branch departments that he promised to eliminate when elected. He probably won't, because TACO, but by all rights he ought to veto this bill and tell the Senate Democrats "okay, now it's your turn to compromise."

14 times the Senate tried to pass a funding bill, 14 times Democrats blocked it, demanding concessions for their losing socialist agenda. It's time they got a taste of their own medicine.

Yeah, getting tired of having to reaffirm on every political-themed post or thread the shared community knowledge that much of our political drama is likely kabuki theater. It's been well established in the CT world.

but

One must realize the majority of the world is blind to, and/or ignorant of, or doesn't care about these possibilities; thus, they live, breathe, and eat the PRESENTED drama and theater.  So if one has to interact with such individuals, one needs to understand them. There are many more open to this idea since COVID, but still, a majority think the government is the end-all be-all. It takes time for any idea to take root.

This isn't something that can be force-fed to the GP either. Hell, half my family used to roll thier eyes at all the time Ive spent on ATS since 2000, now about half of half are more open to the idea, that still leaves 75% unconvinced or willfully ignorant.

Respectfully, if the goal is to get more converts, we probably need to come up with a wider variety of methods that don't involve snarkily insulting people's intelligence.

Everyone learns at their own pace. Conspiracy Theorists are still a minority and far from mainstream. There have been inroads, but there are plenty that are firmly entrenched in their kabuki reality.

If we are going to effect real change, we need one main theme that's quick and easy to hammer home and is likely to stick with the masses.

Even here on DI, we readily know what we are split on and disagree about, but what do we mostly agree upon?

Whatever that is, it will be the probable key to getting people out of the theater and processing worldly happenings with a less trusting, more skeptical eye.

Well aware that both sides are owned, it's why we need to ban lobbying and most PACs,

Obviously the Democrats didn't convince enough people these last  40 days

Pharma owns congress. The Senate Democrats weren’t fighting for you. They were fighting for their cartel.

Now show us the Republican list. As a register Republican, we deserve to know all the facts concerning both sides.

from Pharmaceuticals / Health Products to US Representatives, 2023-2024
Export to CSVIMPORTANT: This money comes from employees or PACs affiliated with the industry, not from the companies themselves

It's pretty evenly split more Democrats in Congress in the top 30, while more Republicans get more contributions in the Senate

Makes one wonder what just these 30 or so records are on voting on health-related bills..

A Democrat senator who helped keep the shutdown alive is now admitting the truth:

he caved because the strategy had completely collapsed.

Sen. Angus King told reporters he voted for the compromise funding deal for one simple reason — “it wasn’t working.”

And he openly acknowledged that Democrats went from “zero chance” of getting their ACA demands…to maybe “50/50.”

A reporter pressed him: “How do you explain that to your constituents, why it was worth it to put up this fight for so long, when in the end, you did not get your key demand?”

SEN. KING: “Because it wasn’t working. How long would it take to not get a response to say it isn’t working?”

“In other words, it’s been six weeks. The Republicans made it clear they weren’t going to discuss the health care issue.

The Affordable Care Act, tax credits until until the shutdown was over.”

“We tried to keep working that for six weeks. It didn’t happen.

The vote that we have is not a guarantee for sure.” “Here’s the way I would put it. As I assessed it, there was zero chance of dealing with the ACA issue as long as the shutdown continued.”

“Now, I don’t know, 50/50, but there’s a lot better chance now than there was this morning because the nothing was happening and there was no evidence that another week or another two weeks or Thanksgiving or Christmas was suddenly the Republicans want to come to us and say, oh, we want to now talk about the ACA.”

Brutal confession for the rest of the party.
