Republican turns on Trump over Venezuela in powerful speech
#1
Speaking in one of the final sessions in the House of Representatives of 2025, Kentucky Republican Thomas Massie takes aim at Donald Trump for his brazen attempts to interfere in the affairs of other countries, namely Venezuela.

Weeks before Donald Trump's unprecedented invasion of Venezuela, Massie reminds the House of previous conflicts America was forced into by the powers in charge for the sake of nothing more than domination, rather than supporting and encouraging democracy and human rights.

Massie then called on his colleagues to support a War Powers Resolution directing the President to scrap the use of United States Armed Forces from hostilities within or against Venezuela.

In this clip, Representative Thomas Massie discusses the perils of using claims of non-existent WMDs to justify military engagement, drawing parallels between past justifications for the "Iraq war" and current drug policy. He highlights James Madison's emphasis on the "House of Representatives" having the sole power for a "declaration of war", underscoring the importance of constitutional checks on executive power in "politics".

What Trump did in Venezuela is legal by US law.
The POTUS is allowed to use the military to carry out law enforcement.
There is precedent .... Noriega.
It was a one time strike to carry out law enforcement.
Where the problem is ... Trump saying that the US would 'run things awhile'.
That was off script.
Everyone else was saying it was just the strike.

The problem with Massies speech ... of course America is going to 'interfere'
with foreign countries in order to bring about what is best for America.   DUH.
Every country does it.   What was happening in Venezuela isn't good for
America.   China and Russia are in deep there and they are doing everything
they can to bring down America from there ... drugs, illegals, etc.   By taking
action, it protects America from that.  (even though we know a lot of this is
about oil).

It’s strange to me. The one politician that seems to represent his constituents and American people at large is so vilified. There was another post about Walz exiting politics and it being indicative of guilt. MT Green is out as of yesterday I believe too. But how she’d begun to align Massie is intriguing, if only for to exit also. Making it even more so.

But yeah I like Massie. Even if he is the token “people’s politician”. The fact Trump likes to go after him, plus AIPAC goin all in on his political demise strengthens this favor of mine.

I don’t see him lasting the decade in politics. But I appreciate his acumen and fervor.

By the way, maybe I will post a topic about Greenland because Trump and some of his supporters are telling lies about my country Denmark.

Greenland is already ours btw. We garrison it. Denmark just pays the welfare checks.
It’s a net fiscal drain.
It’s fun to joke about taking Greenland, but by the standard of any other era of history, it’s already ours.
The Danes can continue sending tribut—er, welfare checks.

How many US military personnel are in this 'garrison'?

Your President is threatening to make Greenland part of the US by military force.
If he did that it would have dire consequences for NATO.

It would be sheer madness.

Not to mention in flagrant breach of International Law
