Trump 'authorizing Full Force, if necessary' as military deploys to another US city

The Antifa gangs run freely.  I've heard that 60% of businesses have closed.

Sounds like us and DC.   We live 2 hours north of DC and used to go in a lot.  Like 2-3 times a year.  Did all the museums multiple times, and the federal buildings, and just walked the National Mall a lot and got hotdogs at the stand near the Lincoln Memorial.  We'd take our daughter in when she was young just to ride the metro so she'd learn how, and we'd do lunch.    Those days are LONG GONE.   DC turned into a crime ridden mess.   A lot of the area around the White House boarded up.  We won't go near it now.    When Trump sent the troops into DC we thought it was overdue.  A good decision on DC.

The mayor and city council here in Portland are trying to close down ICE in Oregon using zoning codes.

We live 30 minutes west of Portland.

I work in Portland.

We welcome Trump's actions.

Personally.

Ahhh ... that adds information to answer the question 'why Portland'.
No ICE in Portland would mean illegals get free reign.
So perhaps Trump was triggered to have to do something because of that.
hmmm .... maybe ....

Well then you are an eyewitness to what it's really like there.
Can't get that from TV or a website.
Just not seeing on the DHS website why they'd go into Portland.
I know it's a stinking mess now.
But it wasn't listed in the DHS site as something out of control.

So you agree with a over reaching government head being able to 'invade' a state without the request for help? Surely that's more a authoritarian regime than a democracy?  As you stated Texas decided for itself on what to do, Portland have told the federal government it's help isn't needed.

I thought Republicans didn't want an over-reaching federal government messing in what they consider state affairs.

Mayor is an elected position.
Police commissioner is appointed.
Ted wheeler is the only one ever to have been both at the same time.
You crying about authoritarian overreaching while co-signing Ted wheeler doing just that is peak hypocrisy.

My Brother has friends (in their 30s) in Portland and they say it's not as bad as some make out.  I sometimes think that as we age we tend to see more 'crime' as we lose our rose tinted glasses and don a more hazy pair making it appear more scary??

No need to make it personal, and who said anything about crying!?!?

He was democratically voted in as Mayor by a majority who must feel he's trying to do a good job, just because you don't agree doesn't mean you're correct or have to attack because I may not agree with you.

I've had cataract surgery, so the vision is fine, funny thing about cataract surgery, we have to go through metal detectors now (Legacy Hospital, Portland) because someone came in and shot up the place a while back.

There are pockets of safety.  Many apartment complexes now have grocery stores right there, and other shops, so no one has to travel now.
