No.   reductio ad Hitlerum.
And when you start playing the Hitler card and the Nazi card, you lose.
It cheapens the sufferings of the actual victims of Hitler and Nazi-ism.

From Google AI Assist - Invoking Hitler or Nazism in an argument is a logical fallacy known as reductio ad Hitlerum and is considered a lazy or desperate tactic that derails productive discussion. The phrase "play the Hitler card discussions lost" is a shorthand for this idea, reflecting the belief that the person who brings up the comparison has likely run out of substantive points. The discussion is considered "lost" because the extreme comparison distracts from the original topic and provokes a highly emotional reaction

I'm asking if the tactics are familiar or not? Are they American DI members here?

This civil rights lawyer thinks they are similar.

The author, Burt Neuborne, is one of America’s top civil liberties lawyers, and questions whether federal government can contain Trump and GOP power grabs."

No.
There is no comparison to Hitler and the Nazis.

"A younger Trump, according to his first wife’s divorce filings, kept and studied a book translating and annotating Adolf Hitler’s pre-World War II speeches in a locked bedside cabinet, Neuborne noted. The English edition of My New Order, published in 1941, also had analyses of the speeches’ impact on his era’s press and politics. “Ugly and appalling as they are, those speeches are masterpieces of demagogic manipulation,” Neuborne says."

"Many Americans may seize or condemn Neuborne’s analysis, which has more than 20 major points of comparison. The author repeatedly says his goal is not “equating” the men--as “it trivializes Hitler’s obscene crimes to compare them to Trump’s often pathetic foibles.”"

So not a true comparison, but perhaps close?

The mayor is an elected executive responsible for overseeing city operations, budgets, and policy, while the police commissioner is a professional appointee tasked with managing law enforcement operations.
These roles are typically distinct to ensure checks and balances, prevent conflicts of interest, and maintain professional expertise in policing.
Serving as both mayor and police commissioner would create significant practical challenges. Combining these roles could lead to inefficiencies, bias in decision-making, or perceptions of politicized policing.

Texas stepped in on its own to protect federal agents doing their job.
Other sanctuary states not only didn’t do anything to help the feds, they put up roadblocks to hinder federal agents doing their jobs.
Glad I could help you see the difference.

If he was elected to post, then obviously the people voted for him over the 8 years he's been in his position, surely unless any wrong doing has been bought to the attention of the people who voted for him this democracy working how it should?

So you agree with a over reaching government head being able to 'invade' a state without the request for help? Surely that's more a authoritarian regime than a democracy?  As you stated Texas decided for itself on what to do, Portland have told the federal government it's help isn't needed.

I thought Republicans didn't want an over-reaching federal government messing in what they consider state affairs.

Don't care what a partisan person at your far left site thinks.
(what a stink'n mess that site is!)

reductio ad Hitlerum.
Once used, you have lost.

Dragging Hitler comparisons in is disgusting.
It cheapens the sufferings of actual real victims of Hitler and Nazi-ism.
It's weak and it's lame.

Trump pushes the limits and boundries ... all Oval Office politicians do.
He bloviates while doing so making him look big and nasty.
But in reality he doesn't have the power nor would he get it.
Partisan and Reductio ad Hitlerum.

Just saw this pop up on the feeds?!?!

Is this another attempt at eroding civil liberties and step closer to an authoritarian regime, or a needed helping hand for ICE?

The Portland City Mayor hasn't asked for this assistance, so is this uncalled for federal interference within a democratically governed city, and Trumps attempts at taking a more aggressive stance at controlling Democrat run cities?
What ever you political leaning, shouldn't the President respect the voted for leaders of a city or state?

We avoid Portland now.

The Antifa gangs run freely.  I've heard that 60% of businesses have closed.

Is that opinion or do you possibly have links that 60% of businesses have closed?

The Republicans have recently been adapting a more Libertarian thought in that area  (YAY!) ... strong on states rights.  And the states have rights to run themselves unless they get to a point where they can't.  If ICE/Federal people and facilities were at risk and the state couldn't do the job of protecting them, then the feds would have the right, and the duty, to step in.   But from the DHS website it looks like Portland isn't out of control and not in need.  Like I said, they may have other information that we don't know about, but their own site has it looking like locals are doing okay controlling things.
