Going back to the moon

Well with luck I may live to see some of this stuff ! Either way I wish them luck in this endeavor.

The air traffic control system sucks in many ways and does need to be fixed IMO.

You are going to have to race China this time around.

Competition is a good thing all the same.
"Yet so it is, we see the illiterate bulk of mankind that walk the high-road of plain common sense, and are governed by the dictates of nature, for the most part easy and undisturbed. To them nothing that is familiar appears unaccountable or difficult to comprehend."

I grew up "wanting to be an astronaut"... like many young boys of my generation...
Between the propaganda flair for 'patriotism' and 'all things scientist' in entertainment,
it could hardly have panned out any other way for me.

I love the concept behind NASA...

However, like many things "American business," it was never clarified...
That NASA is basically a government broker for government contracted works.
A money train for military-associated enterprises, and 'special' dispositions of funds...

(The 'grown up' version of this is the DHS.... the "Walmart" of contract sellers.)
I was surprised that upon the creation of DHS... NASA's revenue stream began to shrink crushingly.

I accept the idea behind our government worshiping Colombia, and valuing the privately-owned bank
so highly that the citizens "must sacrifice" for the "bank's" economic success.

But the entire floor show of NASA was managed like a marketing venture...
Appearances became more important than reality...
As in "hiding" behind the DOD while they funneled money to
"informally funded" activities... off the books.

The pursuit of science and technology are only diminished by politics and social theater.
And what did the wise creators of NASA do... they built in right into the mix.

NASA will be spoken of very generous terms... but who deserve the generosity of opinion
are the actual people, not some bullshit PR facade called "NASA"...

What mattered then, and now... is what you "do" not what "group" you belong to (and what laurels you can adorn yourself with.)

Many of the most enterprising of NASA employees, understand this implicitly.

NASA started out as feel-good, platitude ridden words... a political stunt... and meant specifically to tease the Soviets into a strategy that... in the long run... they couldn't sustain.
(Conflict is for barbarians - who would cut off their own head to claim a win.)

It was the people that made the achievements,... not NASA.

Such people, dedicated together to a common goal, can always succeed...

FYI, that second Artemis mission that’s supposed to land humans on the moon a couple of years from now requires both the NASA-built SLS rocket AND the SpaceX Starship to be operational at the same time.

You can make your own assessment of how likely that is, especially with 20% of the NASA workforce gone by the end of the year.
