Social media is destroying scientific integrity, people are too easily led these days. Just look at the resurgence of flat-earthers.
Still, it's always good for a laugh
I agree 100%.
However, some of those same lying videos are made by the people who are responsible for the claims about Hawass.
The truth is, Hawass did a fine job in Egypt. He definitely entertained alternative views. His PhD was arranged by the Edgar Cayce Foundation.
He never refused access to any site. That's just a line of baloney put out by fringe con men.
There are legal requirements that must be met before anyone can do work at a site. Pretty understandable, if you look at the history of Egyptology.
Compare to the Serpent Mound in Ohio. You enter that place with a shovel and you'll be escorted out.
Hawass is, admittedly, a hard person to like. He comes across as a blowhard sometimes.
That said, the Supreme Council on Antiquities did and still does limit access to some sites and for very good reasons which, of course, vary depending on the context.
