lidar finding new archeological sites is cool.
They have drones to do this now. They had satellites doing this in the 70’s or before, imagine how many sites we found that government never released (Dad worked af/nasa and told me about them looking at sites through the sand/jungle). Sad. But this one is cool:

Quote:Lost Ancient Civilisation Discovered in Ecuadorian Amazon! Archaeologists have made a groundbreaking discovery in the Ecuadorian Amazon near the Andes, a vast ancient civilisation dating back around 2,000 years has been uncovered, rewriting the history of Amazonian societies. Using advanced lidar technology, researchers revealed a sprawling network of interconnected cities linked by massive roads, some measuring 10 meters (33 feet) wide and stretching up to 20 kilometers (12 miles). The settlements, believed to have housed at least 10,000 people from the Upano culture (500 BC–600 AD), featured sophisticated farmland and advanced drainage systems, showcasing a high level of engineering and social organisation.
